I live in a quiet village and my car is in a garage & every time i go to get it out im worried it wont be there.
I suppose it goes with owning 1 as i have not felt like this with my other cars.

While I have MASSIVE sympathy for you and your family, I don't want to sound patronising when I say that this does not happen to everyone.
This was an awful thing although luckily they didn't come in. It could of been worse!
I suppose the nicer area you are in the more likely it is.

I live in a pretty rough part of town. My next door neighbour has had two cars nicked - an old legacy estate and a forester, both used as get away cars. The legacy was old enough to be an easy hot wire, for the forester they broke in and nicked the keys. Strangely, my 06 WRX wagon, which is parked on the street, has had no such problems. By all accounts the joy riders want something easy to nick, and the pro criminals who go for the break in want something they can fit an ATM in the back of. I think it being a wagon helps though, don't think anyone expects it to be particularly high performance. Or it could be the fact that my house has a visible alarm system and a resident staffy. It does attract more than its fair share of petty vandalism though

March 2006 - March 2007 = 759 murders in the uk
2007 there were 5,377 suicides
so you are 7 times more likely to kill your self than be killed
stop reading the daily mail and buy the car you want

had scoobies for the last 10 years, living in East London , with car always parked on street.
no problem so far
was much more conscious of theft 1999-01 when threat felt much more real
have always had a gearbox lock; barrier deadlock or dipol, though
don't think the car is any different from any other fast car now, when it comes to theft risk
