Its a shame really as the 3.6 FSi VR6 is a cracking engine; if only it was fitted in a lighter chassis with a manual gearbox to show off its forté; Instant throttle reponse at any engine speed in any gear, which the 2.0T FSi just doesn't have.

Which means, we will not see the likes of the lovely Golf R32, TT V6, or A3 V6 again. It also means that while there are good used ones around, they are absolute bargains, which is why I just bought a TT 3.2 for the missus and an Audi S4 V8 for me
Catch one while you can

Either way, you'll love the car!

Sad to say that we've almost certainly seen the last of big NA engines in small cars. Nobody seems to want them now and big petrol motors now lead the depreciation race. Turbos and superchargers now deliver the power and with much better mpg and emissions, but they don't drive the same as a creamy V6 or V8

Thats also why the new S4/RS4 is a turbo v6 instead of a N/A V8!

Not trying to upsell you onto the PCP, but look at the final payment (GMFV), and there may be more than that in positive equity at the end? In theory, the recession should be well and truly over in 3 years. . . . And values should be stronger!
Either way, you'll love the car!

Will have a go next weekend hopefully. No rush.
PS What does it look like in the frog green?

Same here; Blue loses it IMO
Would look good painted in BMW ruby black or moonstone white.
Sumatra grey would be good, but could do with being alot darker and a touch more gold/bronze fleck.

Mr VW man,
do you have any more pics? Particularly Pewter and the Sumatra colour. The Sumatra looks very dark on the paint card but on the VW site looks quite interesting!!
Thanks in anticipation.

I'm shooting Forge Motorsports new project car later this week - it's a silver one, with loads of bling under the bonnet...and I'm glad to say that I have already arranged an indoor location.

Sorry, not been online for a few days.
Just to warn you, that is NOT salsa red. That is a special colour for a show car with a body kit and 20" wheels. Salsa is a flat colour!
Cheers for the Sumatra pic (click, copy, paste!)

Have you seen a Sumatra in real life?
On the paint card it looks very dark - but the pics look like a really good grey/pewter colour. I love it - wife doesn't!
And thanks for the tip on the Red - we thought as much! It looks loverly!

Is that a 1.4? It has not got the groovy turbine wheels.
I am really falling for this car and I have not even driven it yet!!
Apparently VW mag got a 2.0 TSI 0-62 in 5.6s!!! Must have been some real abuse!

Yep, it's the 1.4. I wanted it to be fairly nippy but also frugal and reasonable on the tax and the 1.4 was the best engine in the line up for that. It really is fantastic to drive - you wont be disappointed if you do go for one!
Any questions and I'll do my best to help,

Hmmmm - well I went for a test drive today.
I thought I had no expectations but maybe I did.
The car interior looks fantastic in leather, however once you are in the drivers seat it seems quite ordinary looking at the dash.
The car was quick, very firm, very stiff shell, but oddly inert. It cornered well (damp, very cold, near zero).
I got out feeling distinctly whelmed. My reference points are lots of miles in Scoobs and BMWs over the past ten years, and my current car is a Swift Sport.
Overall I remain unsure - not the best feeling to have before shelling out over £20k on a car!

And that is part of my dilemma - the Sport is immediately entertaining but wearing over long distances. Great city or small country road car.
Scirocco was much more grown up. I did try the various settings - we were on bumpy, slippy backroads so comfort was clearly best (evo did their test in Wales on Comfort).
The best way I could describe would be extremely efficient!!

Which is the requirements of VW's core audience TBH.
