Just done a little research and this is what I found. Prices quoted are for my car, Audi S4, so slightly bigger than most Scoobs at 235/40x18, X Load 95, fully fitted. Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric, and Michelin Pilot Sport 2.

Black Circles: F1 £154, PS2 £188.
Tyre Xpress: F1 £151.
Tyres Northampton: F1 £138, PS2 £177.
My Tyres (plus fitting): F1 £134, PS2 £178
Camskill (plus fitting): F1 £124, Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta £101

For comparison, Kwik-Fit quoted £146 fitted for F1 (25% discount on four Goodyear and Dunlop at the mo) and an incredible £266 for PS2!

Conclusion. Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta goes on my preferred list. Too many people who's views I respect (especially Evo mag who know what they're about and have the same priorities as S'netters) say they are absolutely front rank performers, and their prices are very competitive. Presumably they are still trying to break in to the mainstream market and I just might give them a hand

Also new-ish is the Goodyear F1 Asymmetric, which seems to have the edge over the 'old' F1 GSD3 (with curved tread patern). Given that the GSD3 is well known as brill and is still around at very low prices (I found about £10 less) this puts Goodyear right up there.

Like many S'netters, I like Tyres Northampton. They're not far from me and I know they're fitting is first class - they understand picky owners with decent cars and will not scratch your alloys, and they know how to balance them right first time! Price on Goodyears is good, but not so hot on special orders.

Mail order, Camskill look very keen. Phone a local fitter first and agree a price, then get the tyres sent direct to them, or use a mobile fitting service. Fitting seems to be under £10 per corner.

Is this the new way to buy tyres? I can get four Sessanta from Camskill delivered and fitted outside my door, for £454. Compared to a set of PS2 from Kwik-Fit, that's less than half price and an unbelievable saving of £610

Richard.
