Pensioner will end up in court on human rights and assult charges, the robber was going about his business and the pensioner assulted him

Brave - yes and without doubt
Right thing to do, you would have to be there at the time and make the call yourself, we can posture and sumise all we want the facts are the gunman is no longer at large and no-one got seriously injured - how long in jail for is up to the courts to decide and i am sure that will be laughable.

I see one of the chavscum involved in the murder by subsiquent hiding of the weapon used to kill Rhys Jones the 12 y/o boy shot in the back got 7 years - what a joke!
sends out all the right messages - should be 10 years for just holding, 25 for any attempt to use or threaten

and it because too many people use the 'well he might have been armed' excuse to stand by idle and let people get hurt. It's the generation in mid life now that are a bunch of cowards. Look away, avoid confrontation, blame someone else.

Toughen up princess!

If that is all you can say when a bloke shows real courage as he did then you can only be described as being similar to the trogs who stood around and refused to help, that is to say"pig ignorant"!

If that is the general attitude these days, then SSuP's title is perfectly accurate.

If everyone stands back and lets this sort of thing happen, what will happen in the future then?

I have told Robin (UncleBuck) to seek help before now.

He is somehow under my spell - whenever I post, he will post ... does that mean I own him? Is he my Bitch?

Lets all curl up on the floor and allow the mobs to do as they please then?

If our Grandfathers took the same view, and chose not to fight the *****, because they might get hurt ...... we would be in a sad state now.

It is our Grandfathers generation who would have a go - it's the fairies that came later I worry about

I make no apologies for making a simple joke it was simply that a joke making light of a good situation in the end.

I don't agree with people being called cowards for being scared in a situation like that, yes the auld guy did a brave thing and well done but for me showing a simple bit of humour in what was a safe outcome hardly puts me on the level of scum!!

I don't know you and you don't know me, you come across as a decent chap.

Some people are brave some people simply are not, some people like Lexus lights most sane people don't.

Like I said you don't know me, I have been a situation similar to that in Manchester - shockingly lol.

Group of lads proper battering a bloke, kicks to the head the works. Myself and a mate went over to try shed some light on the damage they were potentially causing to the bloke on the floor.

Funnily enough they were not interested in our opinions and subsequently 1 of them pulled a knife. Now forgive me here for thinking to myself here do I run or stay and help the poor b4stard on the floor I am only human, however I stayed.

For my troubles I got a slight wound on my arm but luckily enough I am not slow and managed to avoid serious damage and brought him out enough for my friend and I to at least get the knife off of him.

The "brave" group of lads bolted, we checked the guy over see if at least he was still alive and waited until professional help arrived. An off duty paramedic was around and came over and took over.

I am not a hero nor am I a "trog" that stands by but self preservation is not a crime more an instinct, you can't blame people as we don't know the calibre of people in the betting shop.

Anyhoo I only mention this as I don't like to be labled on an internet forum.

We no longer live in the Hovis and Spitfire days of Heroes and when men were real men,Community spirit, and when people looked out for each other as gone...Our generation have been watered down by PC correctness gone mad. With some of the stories when someone as tried to help, and ended up being arressted themselves, probably makes some people think twice before deciding it's not woth it.
It don't surprise me one bit that some pensioner again as stepped in and had ago..

Yup, well said, it is a sad state to be in.

When this gets to court the scumbag will have a team of court appointed layers and a barrister + various so called professionals who will vouch for him and that he has problems and probably not his fault.

The pensioner will be sat there alone as a witness as will the victims/witnesses with little help or support, and little in the way aftercare for their trauma.

If not in this case then plenty of others...

That's assault. 10 year for the old boy as he's a soft target and Nu Labour need to make an example of him.

They went into battle with equalish equipment, and with the law on their side. Something your beloved Nu Labour don't actually care about.

True, I don't know you and I did not think it was a joking affair in that manner. I am sorry if I was too hard in what I said.

My full respect for what you did in that incident. It was good of you not only to try to help in the first place and then to stick with it when the crud pulled out a knife. You deserve full credit for that.

Society today aren't a bunch of cowards. You/we just don't want to get stabbed, shot, kicked to death for getting involved in someone else's argument/problem etc.

Today we have people who are far to quite to stab you for just looking at them. They car jack your car. They get the keys, they could make off, but stab you with a knife/screwdriver as well for good measure.

If I saw someone getting attacked by someone or some gang, I certainly wouldn't help. Why? Because I don't want my name in the paper as another victim of a stabbing/beating.

Same as if I saw a young kid clearly lost and in distress, I'd be reluctant to go and help. Why? It just take the parent to see a man approaching their kid (even if the intentions are good) and shout Pedophile. Next thing you know angry dad is kicking the sh*t out of you, helped on by every bystander.

EDIT
How many times do we read about have a go hero's being killed? Dads walking outside to have a word with a bunch of lads for causing trouble outside his home, and getting beaten to death for his efforts?

Surely you have contradicted yourself by saying.

Society today aren't a bunch of cowards. You/we just don't want to get stabbed, shot, kicked to death for getting involved in someone else's argument/problem etc.
Then this...

Next thing you know angry dad is kicking the sh*t out of you, helped on by every bystander.

It's interesting to read this thread and what amazes me is that some people appear to make a choice over their actions. I've helped out on two occassions and one involed a knife and the other a weapon (albeit I later found out was an air pistol fake-alike). On both occassions it was akin to an out of body experience, I felt myself walking over on autopilot and thinking (oh ****, DCI you silly ****** you're going to die!) but I didn't.... I messed the fool up Mr T stylee

Yeh, maybe its one of those things you say "I would NEVER do that!"

But when it happens you just feel you have to. Guess you'll never know until that day comes.

That's my view, we're all capable of being heroes.... and often it's the most unlikely people that step forward.

If I see something going on, I phone the police and keep out of it. I live in central london and the place is anonymous enough to convince people there are no consequences when stabbing someone.

I have 2 boys, 10 and 8, and I am not risking myself for a stranger to potentially leave them without a dad.

Those that would never step in and feel doing do is wrong...

What would happen if you're close family, partner or child were in the **** in some situation? Or how about if you were walking in the street and were set on by muggers while with family?

Would you honestly be able to live with yourselves using that cowardly attitude in case you got hurt?

I'd feel like a complete failure as a husband and dad if I could not protect my loved ones. It's not about being "well 'ard" it's about being a proper bloke.

I've helped friends out who have been in trouble, helped my sisters out and even helped someone who had their bike nicked (chased the robbers and got the bike back) - not to try and win points but just because I think the bloke should.

Of course I'm sure I'll get replies from quiverers who tell me it's rather silly and that everyone should just give in to the scum that try and feed off innocents. Sod that. Someone goes for me or my family, they go to hospital.

Good on that OAP. He would have been trained properly - we NEED national service to sort out our discipline AND teach blokes to be blokes - not wobbling little wimps who are at the mercy of scum.

Here's an interesting one...

You see a guy getting verbal with his g/f, nothing violent but looks like it could be. Would you step in?
