Oh, and it really doens't cost much in comparisson to the benefits it brings...if your meal is £100 then leave a £20 tip instead of £10, £20 taxi fair gets a Fiver tip and so on. Might cost you about £50-100 a month extra in tips but well worth it

Disagree there tbh, if you go to the same places all the time then you'll be remembered for sure and will get the elevated level of service but decent places (you might only go to twice a year) see decent polite customers all the time, it takes something more...

Most people are polite and it get's them nowhere 
I like my taxis to arrive instantly,
My table in the corner by the window,
My cocktails to have excessive measures in,
My champage to be a better vintage than i paid for/ordered,
My food to be not spat in and served immediately exactly how i like it,
My room to be the best available and immaculate,
My room service to arrive quick smart and be perfectly prepared,
My coat to be found in the cloakroom straight away without waiting,
Queues not to apply to me and loads more things along the same lines.
Tipping well ensures all this and more
Average tips mean you're left in the cold and forgotten about with everone else who are polite average tippers

When i'm on holiday i revert to typical Brit Abroad behavuiour and only drink pints of Stella, eat Egg and Chips, refuse to speak any foreign language and treat all foreighn workers as scum

If I don't get good service I do not pay for whatever they are charging for, sod the tip - they don't get the cost of the meal even! And if I have paid I will drag their sorry *** through the courts .... oh, they remember to give me TOP service allright!!

Not knocking you but Black cabbies earn more than most of us as-is. The kind of tips they get from me are 'slowdown', 'talk less', 'eat less garlic'
Can I ask: do you have mortgage/kids/live-in female with access to heating thermostats/2 cars/earn under £50k. If 'no' to any of those carry on

I've done a couple of RC cruises now, and I don't pay up front.
I tip who I want to tip as I go and I make sure on the last day that I give a few extra dollars ($40) to the couple of staff that particuarly look after you (cabin steward/barmen/waiter).
I spent well in excess of the $200ish on tips that they want you to pay up front.
I'm off again with RC on Independance in August, looking forward to it, except I should have realised that the kids will be off school and the spoilt little ******* had better not ruin my holiday!

I mean local mini cabs, that you call to your house or from a bar/club. Like i said they know me now and i never have to wait more than 5 min for a cab no matter what time of day/night. They'll even divert them from other jobs for me. Black cabs don't get a tip unless in London and they've saved me a lot of time through route knowledge and rightly so as they're all privately owned.
No mortgage,no kids, no wimmins, i wear extra jumpers if it's cold but i've just taken a 1/3 pay cut starting a FT job instead of contracting!

Plus if you weren't poor to start with you could have a car AND do the things you actually enjoy. Oh and then maybe get a girlfriend and let go of the steam trains and anorak.

I had a car for 12 years and drove about 35,000k a year average. Enough of that now, it's boring and tiresome - I've driven every make of car there is that is desirable apart from Bugatti, driving is just a chore to me now, i have no need for it

When you've driven as many cars as me it gets a bit boring tbh. There's only so fast you can drive on the roads these days and there are more and more imigrants and neds around getting in the way now
I've slept with well over 100 wimmins, i've had more than enough of them for a while Need to keep distractions like that at bay to concentrate on other things (No not men

I personally believe driving could never become boring and certainly not after your quoted 12 short years of car ownership. Its not just about speed after all said and done. Oh and I'm intrigued how you assume you've driven more cars than me too but I won't get into a Avdun style post.

I've driven every make of car on sale in the UK other than Bugati or ones that are built in sheds on midlands industrial estates and don't have roofs,doors etc. If you've done that too then welcome to the club
I have no need for driving at the moment. I work 2 miles from home and enjoy the walk, i can use free wireless or read the paper on the bus into Oxford that runs every 20 min and costs £3 return, i can get to London on the train for £4. If i NEED a car i borrow a spare one from someone. Giving up driving on a regular basis has been one of the best decisions i've ever made without a doubt.

I drove to work every day for 10 years. Now i walk. There is no way i'm ever going to drive again like that. You have no idea how liberating it is not to have to. Knowing you will get to work at exactly the time you think you will.
No traffic.
No stopping.
No defrosting/ice scraping.
No road rage idiots.
No stress.
No hassle.
No having to park/find a space.
No getting fuel.
NO COST
Fresh air.
Seeing deer, badgers, foxes, birds of prey etc in the fields..
I feel sorry for anyone who still has to drive to work.

Well there is truth there - I even saw an otter today on my 'trail' cycle commute. Walking however is beneath me!
There was also 'hardcore' gags at work due to the shorts and snow LOL. I consider it more a lack of kit and planning
