My Mates New Range Rover Sport - Arden Stronger AR6
#61
Agree with REV - it may have cost the earth but it still looks cack. As does anything with Kahn alloys or similar.
It is also meant to be an offroader - that's not going ANYWHERE off road.
Top of the range Rangie with big RR alloys and maybe even the full Autobiography kit - yes, bazzed up waste of cash in blood clot red - no.

I've just had a look on the Arden website. £1500 for a back box £3500 for wheels and tyres (not too bad for 22's) Nearly £7000 for a full exhaust system and a remap
If your mates is an AR6 then it's had some serious engine work and makes more power than you reckon. It should be making nearly 360bhp and will have had the engine rebuilt with a new crankshaft taking it to 4.5 litre. That alone would have been £32,000.
I reckon he could have had something truly custom built for less than £106,000.

Quite like the kit on it actually, but "Arden Stronger" ???
I thought driving round with "KAHN" written all over your nice new Range Rover was bad enough, but "ARDEN STRONGER"???. Dear me.

I would have bought a house, it doesnt depreciate as much as a RR plus for me a RR is an off road car, not some bling machine, that pretty much removes all point about owning one, its too low, even curbs in london could be a problem, and at 106k a BMW 635 twin turbo diesel would have been much better vfm and tuned will wipe the floor with a 2.5 tonne RR.
4x4's dont look too good blinged up.... but whatever floats your boat as they say...

I didn't say it looked cack, I'm just questioning the cost

As I have said previously its the only one in the UK in this colour and spec so if I am right, thats pretty Custom????
He isnt into his sports cars, he wanted a 4x4 hence the RR.
He has a very nice home so already has a house, he has a construction company so property is not required
TonyBurns - The car has adjustable suspension so the ride height can be adjusted. The setting on the picture is the lowest and when you go over 10mph (i think) it automatically sits up to a nice height for driving, meaning bumps, kurbs and uneven roads are not an issue.

No, because all they've done is fit off the shelf parts. I could go and buy an identical one tomorrow if I wanted to (and had £106,000 ) Truly custom would be unique and made for him to his spec.

Sports were designed to sell to a different market than traditional LR products.
And, as Ive said, depreciation is most likely a red herring on this occasion.
Lastly, by the way, its kerb, not curb

Each to their own ! If it's what he wants then fair play to him. But looks like a case of more money than taste to me !! Then again it's about £105,000 more than I could afford to spend !!!!

This is crux of it - i feel sorry for the owner , hes plainly of the understanding that conspicous wastage is still the order of the day and that the property hes costructing is worth a fortune

True, but there again. If the guy can spend £106k on a car, his house is going to be pretty impressive. Given the guy has his own Construction company, it's probably designed/built to his own specification. Unlike most of us who buy our houses/flats, that look just the same as next door, and every next door for the entire street/new build estate.
If he'd bought a Bently GT for £100k+, we all be saying "great car, I'd love one of them". But what's the difference?
They're both luxury cars. Both 4x4, and both depreciate very quickly. Raise the suspension on the RRS, and stick a set of standard alloys on, and it will offroad. Yes 95% of RR & RRS never seen any kind of muddy field, but 95% of Subaru owners never enter a Rally in their's either.

I see - I think that hideous chaviot is a waste of money and taste, so the exercise shy fatties/skinny geeks of SN compare it do very difficult press ups?
Interesting "link" there guys.
Range Rovers are nice. Badly bazzed up ones aren't. They are about as appealing as a 100" Plasma TV, a villa in Benidorm, and a gold Rolex - all expensive, all very very naff.

I am aint going to post anymore as it seems that certain people have taken a few comments to heart and have hit back.
Also like i said earlier I asked for comments on the car but it seems certain people can't read and keep commenting on a guy they don't know and will never meet.
I thought there might be some negative comments but some people really need to either Grow up or if your comments aren't relevant don't post because its pathetic.
I would appreciate it if you have any further comments please stick to the car.
Nat21 - How the f*ck do you work that out? Just because he wanted something different that means he also wants people to think he is rock hard.....f*ck me there lots of logic there.

I totally miss the point with stuff like this. The RR sport is quite capable as an off roader, Remember clarkson racing against the tank? All functionality off road has now been removed from your mates RR. It cannot be used off road anymore. Its sole purpose is now as **** extension for lording it over other motorist's. Its trying to say 'I am considerably richer than Yaw'. What it really says is 'I am Michael Carol'.
Cringe.

Okay then, I'll buy an Army issue Land Rover, lower it so it can't go off road, put massive tyres on it, cover it in stickers etc.
That way I can also ruin what was a useful vehicle and remove it's best USP but at least I'll look cool eh?
Whilst I'm at it, I'll jack up an F430 so it goes offroad...
What it is with construction company owners? They are classics at flashing cash to their "lowly" workers and getting it completely wrong.
Still, I'm sure the bazzed RR will be for sale soon for £10k.

Nat21 - Yeah an X5, why is that text book?
Depreciation isnt an issue for him, he will be keeping the car for a few years so he wasn't looking at re-sale value. As said on page 1 i think he has been offered more than he paid for it by some footballers but refused to sell.
Matteeboy - The RR wasnt purchased to go off road as stated above. He didnt want a standard RR sport as half of cheshire has them so hence why he went to Arden to get the work done.

Must be all that testosterone from the training
I guess "each to their own" isn't a concept that works for you
