However, those people who demanded the WRX be sold here never actually bought it, hence Subaru have withdrawn the it.
100% correct

And for those who think the new models look awful what are they going to buy that offers similar performance, looks good and only costs 17K when their old models have to be replaced and saloon impreza's are history - perhaps an EVO - but not for the same money!

Widely suggested improvements like a new body style?
To answer your question on what I'd replace my bugeye with the answer is easy - low mileage Hawkeye.
Never buy new anyway, total waste of money IMHO, especially with the depreciation right now.

still the designers have a lot to answer too, the whole reason of a wrx sti type r etc etc is in your face looks awsome power road holding to die for!
then they went for the family hatchback market??
mind you the amount of spoilerless scoobys on here maybe that is what folks are after i mean a sleeper impreza??? lol
and it looks like a kia ceed!

Funny isn't it - at the time it was released LOTS of people on here said they didn't like it, and wouldn't buy one - and lo and behold, people with money to spend didn't like them and haven't bought them ( I haven't even seen one on the road, although it could easily be mistaken for any modern hatchback as it isn't really distinctive ! )

Subaru have now realised that their customers ( mostly men ) didn't want to buy something that looked like their wife or 18 year old daughters car, so what's the betting the new 2010 model will be a saloon again ?

I think a big problem is the competition - if you want a hot hatch there are plenty out there to choose from ( Honda, Ford etc... ) - if you want a performance saloon car there's only really the Evo and BMW M's, both of which are a lot more expensive, so Subaru effectively managed to get rid of their main selling point.

love or hate the hatch if you park any previous impreza next to one they all look very old and dated inside and out.

Are they not releasing the Saloon in the UK then ?

Looks quite nice to me in this guise, like the alloys anyway

Sorry, I have to say that's nonsense in my opinion.
Parked mine next to a new shape WRX at the dealer and it made the new shape look even more of an eyesore than it already is!
Also, the new cabin's plastics are far cheaper looking.

I still think my 55 wagon looks pretty sharp and its pretty timeless and functional inside.

I've seen one or two new model non-turbo cars and maybe a couple of WRXs, but they just don't look good.

Spotted only one STI, which looked a lot better, and given the frequency of my sightings, must be pretty rare too.

They are VERY hard to spot on the road, even the STI..!

Let's hope Subaru keep their tradition of yearly 'face lifts' and do something to correct the current model's image..

Good, just like the old days, when people would come up to me and ask what it was, hardly saw them on the roads, now every chav's got one

The Scoob lost it's exclusivity at the turn of the century imo

Had a good look round a hatch sti in a showroom and it is bland from every angle. Have somehow managed to notice a couple of normally aspirated even blander ones on the road and just one wrx.

Agreed - the bugeye until the hawkeye models all had much better interiors, better quality plastics defo. Seats in the new one are a bit too comfy for what is ultimately supposed to be a sports car!

Since they've been out, I've only seen one STI and a diesel (the STI to me looked too wide and fat - better from the front than the WRX but still hideous (don't get me started on those rear lights)).

Oh dear Subaru what have you done!? As for the comments on exclusivity - people wanted them back when the classics first started coming over, but before importers started bringing them into the country en mass they were hard to get hold of.
You've got to admit that's a different situation to nobody wanting a car because it looks like a Rover 25

How many of you would have choose a Vauxhall or a Renault over a Subaru 3 years ago???.

Sorry but the Astra VXR and Renault Megane R26 are much better cars then the new Subaru Impreza WRX, They are better looking, faster, and cheaper to run and insure, and cost about the same price as the WRX!!!!

Im Subaru through and through and love the brand, but the new car doesnt really do it for me. I doesnt excite me even when I see one either, it looks like any other car on the road.

Trouble is that the Megane is still as ugly lol.
The VXR I agree is prettier but apparently a bit too much power through front wheels makes it a bit twitchy? (Still wouldn't mind a go though )

I guess with both one issue potentially is that you forego Jap build quality, which I think even nowadays is still miles ahead of the competition.
