you need to turn the DSC off on a x5,then they are quite good in the snow(ours has been the last few days) considering the tyres and the hill descent is really good in the snow

I have seen more 1-4 year old cars stuck/abandoned at the side of the road than older ones - more 3 seies BMW's that anything, started to notice this.

They do have snow in other countries, even Germany, so maybe not the cars and more to do with the drivers?

Tried to get to work in the MX this morning.

It might out handle a lot of stuff normally but it was like Bambi on ice.Nothing to turn off in an MX either! (went home and nicked the wifes X Trail which was fine)

I was in the middle of that in a 964 C2. I avoided all trouble and used the 911's unique ability to swap ends in a short space to do a 180 and drive back the other way on the oppo carriageway while everyone else was stuck.

Another time i had an E36 M3 and drove from London back home in a snow storm at 2am with no problem. Ditto the same in a Boxster S. And again in an old 450SL.

Like i said, it's not hard if you are a smooth, cautious, prepared driver. Unfortunately most people are not .
Exactly. Smoothness and driving appropriate to conditions means you can drive anything anywhere. I really dont understand why you couldnt move the M3, was the LSD broken or something?

Jesus. Where do I start slating people in this thread?

Never seen so much blatant stereo typing, downright arrogance, narrow mindedness, crass laughing at others misfortune, baseless bragging rights and people with 'the knowledge' who actually know squat.... all crammed into a single post...
  • Yes, I own a BMW
  • No, I'm not a ****
  • Yes, it's a semi-auto and think it's the best box I've ever used.
  • No I've never had any issues in the recent snow even with 510 ft lbs
  • Yes I know the car and apply the right traction controls modes and driving styles to suit the conditions. This includes staying at home and knowing mine and the cars limits.
  • No, they don't work all the time and anyone can get it wrong
  • Yes, I also think laughing at people as they struggle with the conditions and damaging their cars hilarious...
  • No, I wouldn't comment on people or their cars without having the benefit of either knowing them, having driven their cars or understanding their situation...
  • Yes, I have finished.
