My car had Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs from the factory.
One broke and Subaru wanted over 300 quid for each one!!!!!!
I got a set of BC coilovers for less than the price of 2 shocks.
Fitting them Friday will post pics of before and after

On my 97 STi wagon i've had aluminium wishbones fitted, anti-lift kit, rollcentre kit and Powerflex steering rack bushes fitted, and Whiteline ARB and strut brace at the rear, with Eibach springs all round. Handles superbly, just need to dial out some of the stiffness at the rear to reduce its propensity to slide when the roads are damp. All done to improve the handling, but the slightly reduced height from the springs also adds to the overall stance of the car.

Right,
Having decided that I should sort out handling before power what recommendations do you guys have for upgrading my suspension ('54 plate WRX SL, currently standard)?
Tein? BC? KW? AST? Bewildering choice because lots of kits seem to offer the same thing but at vastly different prices - are there any brands I should stay away from? Is one vastly better than the rest?
Car will be commuting and fast road only, maybe one track day a year so track use is not important.
Also, do all kits come with better top mounts?
Cheers,
Alex

One of the rear shocks was leaking so went for the BC shocks and Whiteline ALK... Good excuse to spend some money on an adjustable set up! As per most people, I wanted to dial out the typical Subaru understeer.
Very happy with the shocks I might add. Had the geometry done, but still understeers a weenie bit for my liking - will be experimenting more when the weathers a bit better!
Would be interesting to see everyone's geometry settings, for those that have them...
Cheers

Did mine because I felt the car had a lot more to give in terms of handling!
Went for the Tein superstreets and....ohhhhhh yes, blimey does it gobble up corners now. Forever fiddling with em, trying to understand different damper rates front and rear etc... Recently found that best results are obtained if you run the front rates quite a bit stiffer than the rear e.g. (F) 10 (R) 16, whereas many seam to advocate a smaller difference front to rear.

I lowered my car purely for cosmetic reasons. The standard springs make the car sit way too high [imo] so I put the Teins on which dropped it around 30mm. Handling appeared to improve which was a bonus aswell.

PTMW! I added Eibachs & Prodrive Geo to get rid of u/steer. Soon replaced Eibachs with Leda B adj coilovers, added Powerflex droplinks & braces all round to tighten up the chasis - then a cage helped too. Reason was that I didn't have an engine budget & big brakes/good suspension meant I could reel more powerful cars in on track then get past them Leda for track was excellent as at setting 6 it was daily driver, then up to 16 when I turned up for a bit of a play...
RA is much the same concept - big brakes & handling mods before engine u/grades. Came with u/rated front LSD (no need for ALK) & non-OE struts/springs. Added in Whiteline ARBs front/rear, solid rear d/links, top/lwr braces front & a cage (with diagonal & rear turret bar). Suspension being changed for fully adjustable Tein stuff this w/end. The car is primarily a track toy and maybe SSO/SS contender and I don't care a hoot about compromising road ride
