No dog can ever be trusted regardless training or past temperament. If a grown child is to be left playing with a dog, the child must be able to control or overpower the dog.

I've had dogs all my life (wrong side of 40 now) but whenever I see a Staffie all I see is a seriously muscly dog with jaws on it that look like it could snap a bone easily - not the sort of dog I'd stop to pat.
Many, many times, and always with the same old "it's not the dogs fault" comments.

No amount of licenses, checks etc would have stopped this terrible tragedy from happening

Gramdmother left the baby alone with her two dogs, stupid human error, it only takes seconds, she could have even been in the same room at the time

We dont even allow the cat in the same room as the baby on their own, just isnt worth the risk IMHO

"Human Error"

Look I'll agree she was pathetic, but at the end of the day those dogs were given half a chance and as a result they savaged a baby to death. Some on here would say that theirs "wouldn't do such a thing" but trust me on this it's more the case of they haven't done it "yet" more through lack of opportunity than anything else.

If you read the posts you'll see "those dogs" being referred to. I suggest you take those staffy tinted specs off.....

Alright, give me a straight answer on this question then.

- Would you leave him in a room with your children unsupervised?

A simple yes or no will suffice.

why do you want to know the ages of the children, are you a judge, are you about to judge someone, or are you trying to reach 30,000

I would have thought that was quite simple really, after children get to a certain age they should have some degree of control over the animal.

eldest one has been walking him for approx 3 years fair enough he's a big lad but honestly never once has the dog put him in a situation.Obvious checks are made before letting him off the lead(we live close to lots of fields)

Thanks for the straight reply, the baby's Grandmother probably had the same opinion about her dogs, shame she had to be proved wrong though.

At the end of the day they're just pack animals and capable of attacking another "animal" be it dog, cat or human. Animals don't have the ability to understand "right or wrong" so leaving children alone with them is playing Russian roulette, with very high and irreplaceable odds.

I have to say that I'm firmly in the DCI camp here. I've owned Staffies for years but mine never gets left alone with my nine month old nephew. Never. I just wouldn't be able to forgive myself if anything happened.

Ive had Staffies and Rotties for 20 years now and have always put them on there leads if people are about, not because they have ever attacked anyone but because they are animals at the end of the day and you cant tell what there thinking or what they could do.
