watching my car die

Plumbed in AFFF systems will have two nozzles under the bonnet, one front and one bac, on opposite corners. It is true that they dont always work: if theyre pointing right where theyre needed then foam isnt that bad, but it is certainly far short of halon, which fill chase out all of the oxygen and snuff out any fire.
You can usually do more with a two litre hand held: but youll also need a pair of gloves and a pry bar in order to get the bonnet up, in order that you can tackle the source of the fire.
Halon extinguishers are still available, but for very restricted applications...

Holy ****, thats messed up.
FAO everybody else ....its worth having a fire extinguisher in the car to prevent this from happening
This would have happened to Killers car at the MSOC meet if it wernt for
M444GY's quick thinking and the use of his fire extinguiser
hope it works out for you mate

Just got up and that's the first thing I see! Gutted for you Jimser. Lovely cars the bugeye spec c, looked at getting one myself a few years ago. Hope you find a replacement, and glad you're ok.

It displaces the oxygen. It wasnt brilliant for ozone either; hence the man banned it. Theyre illegal like drugs since about 2004/2004 and you can only use them if youre the military, in the channel tunnel or in a plane. I believe that those have to use recycled halon too.....

So glad youre okay fella.
Was one of my the nicest bugeyes on SN.
Makes me wanna be sick, seeing those images. Words cant discribe how you must feel. Still at least as horrible as it is, the car can be replaced, you my friend cannot.
Take care, keep us posted on your progress

From: Daily drive is a Scoob again - just what it should be!
What an awful thing to have to stand and watch - helpless.
Having only had my Scooby since July I have realised they are more than a car - they are part of the family - well mine is, and I know the husband agrees (if I tel him to!!)
Good luck with your new venture - I'm sure she will look just as sweet!

Speaking of powder extinguishers: anyone who has one in their car needs to take it out and give it a damned good shake every month!

What a horrible thing to have to watch. Glad you got out mate, it could have been a hell of a lot worse.
Had this happen to me in 2 cars Ive been mapping so i know the fear you felt and how you probably got out of the car whilst it was still moving.
If she has thrown a rod then no powder or plumbed in extinguisher would have likely helped you. Gas is the only way forward and I carry it with every mapping job, just in case but even then, if you cant open the bonnet, all you can do is leave it to burn.
Sad for you mate.
