I hear one of the dogs of that poor kid the other day was a jack russell.

would that be put on the dangerous dogs list as well?
Jack russels are notoriously uptight little *****, so maybe yes.

Like most small ratty dogs they have Napoleon syndrome, and try to take on everyone and everything, espescialy when food is around!

Horrible ratty little tw@s

I think spireite is quite right. Its like the way the law always used to be applied. If you break it and are caught at it then you should get the sort of penalty that reminds you that it is just not worth allowing to happen. If as in this case the dogs got out because of insufficient security, then the owners are to blame and should get hammered for it.

The only other way, unless you advocate conviction due to suspicion alone, is to ban everyone from keeping a dog in this country! That would not be very good would it?

Here's the problem though.

I would gladly go through any licencing/testing etc.

Just as I insure and tax my car every year. But I'm an honest citizen. The problem dog owners are as likely to give any consideration to adhering to any licencing or regulation as the owners of the millions of untaxed and uninsured cars are.

And you can't ban the dogs, or you have to ban every breed that's ever bitten someone and all cross breeds. You effectively have to ban dogs.

In which case, you have to ban, well, practically everything that can cause injury or death in the wrong hands.

No, the answer is to get properly hard on crime, make prisons hellholes again, throw out half the human rights act, and impose harsh custodial sentences.

And throw those fecking McCanns in jail while we are at it. Their negligence most likely resulted in a little girl's death.

Its not just dog ownership that lacks responsibility, its society as a whole that needs sorting out.

Agreed. I've been bitten a few times of Jack Russels. For no reason at all. I was just walking past to go to the loo, and it went for me. OK it didn't hurt as I was wearing jeans, but these types of dogs bite far more than so called "Hard dogs". It's just that when "Hard Dogs" bite it's in the media.

When starting to read this thread, I wondered how long it would be before someone tried to turn it round into a Staffie hating thread. Didn't take long.

Don't judge a dog by it's breed. A well trained dog (any breed) will be perfectly behaved, and well mannered. Mine is.

Shoot the f*ckers. Every last one. As someone who was attacked by a dog as a kid, line them all up in a row and i'd happily shoot the lot of them. Even the ones with the sad eyes and floppy ears. I'd shoot those f*ckers first.

I got a bite to the face when I was about 6 or 7, off a Jack Russell. Made me terrified of dogs... Soon got over it though albeit nearly 10 years later. I now have a dog too!
My sister had her ear ripped off by one too (a different one) she was about 10; Now 30 she's had dogs most of her adult life.
I suppose some people just forgive and forget though

Is it? Where is your evidence of this? After all, Staffordshire Bull Terriers are oft cited as being caring, gentle, obedient... the "Nanny Dog" (pictured 'kissing' babies ), presumably passing your 'test' with ease. Is only occasionally eating children part of your examination?

Be mindful not to stray too far from the human element with your 'test', remember, the party line is the human is always at fault, never the animal

How about that... legislation preventing idiots owning a pernicious object, you could be on to something

Looker -why are you latching onto me? Which regular troll are you?
What I'm saying is that dogs with good discipline are more likely to realise humans are in charge and be less aggressive - evidence? Growing up with dogs and having possibly one of the best behaved labs around.

However we NEVER leave her alone with our four month old - not even for a second. I can't believe people trust any dog with a baby, be it a softie lab or a snarling Rottie.

Nice balanced view there

I think Paul could do with some therapy to be able to move on with his life.

Trigger pulling therapy, yes please. Why do you think dogs are featured in "The Omen". They are instruments of the devil.

I was attacked by a man once, for no good reason-should we shoot all them as well!

Have a bit of sense Paulr!

Latching on to you?

I have responded to your posts, amongst others, which is customary on a BBS, is it not?

Why doesn't that surprise me
