I have activated my alarm to lock the doors when the ignition is turned.
This saved the previous owner of one of my old cars, he had nipped to the bank for some cash, jumped in his car, started the engine and sat putting his money in his wallet. Two scallies came from either side trying to get in, it was locked automatically, he floored it and sent them flying!

The std Subaru Sigma alarm has a built in anti Hi-jack feature whereby the doors are automatically locked after turning on the ignition. I would suggest everyone should activate it.

If you're really worried a Blackjack may also be a good idea.
how do you activate it?

I think in some areas a S.African Anti-Hijack systems should really be considered.

Check the features of this one:

* Long range remote control activation (50-100 metres) after vehicle hijacking takes place. (You stay in control)

* System ON, indicated by tale lights.

* Pre-set timer, immobilizing vehicle approximately 5Km owner to prevent reprisal attack.

* 2ND Timer activates ear-piercing siren from inside vehicle.

* Opening any of the doors will trigger the 50,000-Volt shock in both front seats.

* The system includes an anti-theft mode which triggers, without timers, for when the vehicle is parked and unattended.

* STOP CARGO THEFT.

* STOP RADIO AND CAR PHONE THEFT.

* Designed within the framework of the law.

* Shock tested by South African Authorities.
* Fully warranted in accordance with the Force manufacturers warranty.

GENERAL

Imagine your worst nightmare coming true - your vehicle or cargo is hijacked - and you see your hard-earned set of wheels driving off into the sunset never to be retrieved again. !!!! WRONG !!!!

After installing THE EJECTOR you can retrieve your vehicle within seconds in the same condition and leaving the “would be” thief in a state of shock and without his loot.

It is our pleasure to introduce to you THE FORCE EJECTOR our gold medal award, Anti-Hijack/Theft System. This unique system is designed to benefit you in several ways and allows you to "get even" with the “would be” Hijacker. The system is fully remote controlled and has the following features:

1. Remove the danger from yourself in a hijack scenario before activation. – you stay in control -
2. Aggressively removes the hijacker forcefully from your vehicle.
3. Eliminating the hassles of being without your vehicle and valuable goods.

Anti-hijack Mode

* Once the vehicle has been hijacked the system can be remotely activated the brake lights will come on and stay on to indicating that the system has been activated. After ± 30 seconds delay the vehicle systems are cut out in two places immobilizing the vehicle and forcing the vehicle to safely and slowly come to a gradual halt.

* At this time ± 60 seconds after activation a loud 110-dB ear-piercing siren is triggered within the vehicle forcing the “would be” thief to want to get out of the vehicle.

* As soon as the “would be” thief opens the door a massive high voltage non-lethal shock will travel through both front seats into his body, forcing the criminal out of the vehicle and into another profession.

Anti-theft Mode

* The unit is also an Anti-theft device for when the vehicle is parked and unattended.
* Whilst armed a thief enters into the vehicle the siren is immobilized, triggered and triggered shock through the front seats are immediately activated forcing the “would be” thief not to enter the vehicle at all.

I would give them the keys with a smile, just to see their faces when they're getting electrocuted a couple of mins later!!

Theres something on the newage standard alarm on the pull down keypad where you can programme the doors to lock.

Had this a couple of years ago and I actually phoned the police whilst it was happening and got no attendance ...

girl on her own in a scoob and the cops did nothing .. didnt even follow it up

Im glad you got away, with the high tech alarms these days it seems the only way they can get the car is with your keys or you in it

I would think if you've had the car taken in the first place, they wont be people you'd want to approach.

My doors lock too when the engine starts

He put one foot on the ground and tried to reach round for the door handle, so I floored it again barrel rolling him over the car.

He was on the ground a good twenty seconds about thirty feet behind the car before he eventually "terminator" style stood up shouted something then hobbled off into the night.

Sorry for the long story and the slight thread-highjack but goes to show there are some right nutters out there.

Glad you got away ok.

Sounds like a Screenplay...that made me laugh...although obviously not a funny situation to be in

I think everyone should use the "auto lock on ignition" feture,
then when you stop fit your stering lock before switching off the ignition.

I also sometimes keep my alarm key fob seperate to my scooby keys so if someone managed to get my keys off me they couldn't start the car. stay safe!

Bad situation to be in but glad your ok.

To get round this problem I have the Clifford 650 alarm fitted with the anti hijacking system. Not only does the car automatically lock its self when it sets off, but if they were desperate to get it and put their hand through the window they can drive off in the car and it will go about 300 yards down the road and the immobiliser will cut in. The password then has to be put in. By this time you can either leave the car, contact the police and pick it up later or just wait till they leave then jump in put your code in and away you go.

However this can get annoying, everytime the car door is opened the code needs to be put in. But it does make me feel a little more confident. Think there around £300

Had the blackjax anti hijack thing on my Evo and the amount of times I opened the doors, got back in and forgot to put the number in the keypad, and then a couple of minutes later the car cut out and alarms and lights going on and off, happened way to many times, Id rather just lock the doors before I get in. Sometimes alarms complicate things to much.
