Jewels in laymans terms are bearings, where there is a shaft attached to a cog/wheel it will be set with a jewel bearing.
Jewels set against a pointed shaft produces a good set with little or no friction, ensuring good escapement, therefore good time keeping.
The more Jewels the better the watch.
Lume is the night time glow given by the luminecent paint, usually a tell tale sign with a fake watch, they dont usually give off the same amount of light in brightness or length of emmission.
The best lume is found on watches fitted with tritium gas filled tubes they shine without any outside light sourse, and shine 100 times brighter than any lume paint.....see Welcome to BALL Watch.
Dont buy anything from any site that is sub $300 or you will be wasting your money.

Jewels (synthetic rubies) are used at points (where there is transfer of torque through gears and barings) in watch movements to reduce friction. Less friction = smoother movement. E.g. The 6497's used by Panerai in their base series are a very very old design originally used in pocket watches. They only have 17 jewels. Newer decent Automatics have 21+ jewels and Chronograph movements even more as there are more gears and complications.

Factory is in Guangzhou like all the replica (of anything) factories are.
Guangzhou is amazing, there are whole districts devoted to different replica things. Pottery district, jewellery district, watch district, bag district, electronics district. They all have their wholesale market days and there are literally thousands of stalls/sellers, as far as the eye can see, selling replicas of the type that each district sells. Millions of items in each market. Crazy.
V4 is Version 4 of the replica Super Sea Dweller. They listen to criticisms and improve them. Or maybe they deliberately make the first versions with inaccuracies so people buy the newer versions when they come out

Well if you wanted to start selling them in the UK you would just need to go to Guangzhou, speak to the right people (easily arranged with a fixer) and get a drop shipping agreement. Set up website hosted abroad somewhere and with a long trail that doesn't end in you and wait for the £'s to roll in... Drop shipping means no stock held, no exposure to you,no start up costs. Easy as 123...
Or go to rep city, arrange for 100,000 watches in piece/component form to be shipped to the UK (v easy). Chinese will then arrange for illegal workers in the UK to assemble them here. Then they're yours to do what you want with.

I find this subject really interesting, I would love to see a documentary on these copy factories, and see exactly what goes on.
Why dont Rolex/Breitling/Omega etc....go to these places and shut them down, I cant believe they sit back and let it go on.
How do they get them so accurate, the watch I took to bits opened my eyes to what a ;replica; watch actually was, we are not talking 40 euro lucky lucky here.
I have found that the people selling the highend watches are far detatched from the place of origin. And you cant contact them direct, they have PO boxes rather than business addresses, and no direct phone number, if you look at the warrenty/returns its a PO box not an address.
They run 10 or more sites that are almost identical, but again different PO boxes and contact emails.
All very " secret squirrel "..
Tell me more Nat, you go to that part of the world...often, so now Im intrigued.

There are videos around on Chinese sites of the factories taking the real sample watches apart in lab conditions, quite interesting, will try to find some again.
The watch makers let it go on because there is an unwritten law/rule that a factory will NEVER make a perfect rep. There is ALWAYS something wrong with them, it's impossible to get a 100% right, out of the box, fresh from the factory rep. This is deliberate. Look at the reps, and the things they get right that are v v hard to do. Then they **** up on a date font or bezel marking? Deliberate.
As long as there is not a perfect rep the makers allow it to go on. If there ever was a perfect rep then that's it for that real manufacturer - image ruined, they'd come down on the factory like crazy so the outcome would be bad for both sides. So there is an kind of truce between the real makers and the factories.
It's not the manufacture the makers are bothered about,it is the SALE of reps.
What the makers are concerned about is that there are no reps for sale on the street/towns in the USA, Europe, Japan and other major markets. They work extremely hard to ensure this in these markets. Try selling reps at a market in the UK and see how long you last.
There are near perfect reps but you have to DIY them and send them to people to be modded. This is a tiny tiny percentage of the amount of reps sold though. Most sold are crap copies for a few $. The people buying these are never going to buy a real watch, the real makers don't care so they let these factories making crap carry on, it does not concern them. The amount of decent reps made Vs crap is v v small too so again this does not really bother them.

GUANGZHOU WATCH FACTORY
14 SHI LIU GANG ROAD GUANGZHOU,CHINA CONSIGNEE
CENTRANS INT-L INC..
6161 SAVOY DRIVE #300 HOUSTON, TX7703 NOTIFY PARTY
CENTRANS INT-L INC.
6161 SAVOY DRIVE #300 HOUSTON, TX7703
Interesting...
How the hell do they charge the equivalent $30 for a watch they can command $340 for.
Ok you need to order a thousand units but hell fire.
The next important question is....What is the penalty for dealing in this field, and I dont mean trying to palm people off with fake for real, I mean selling them as Idolreps do.

Chinese labour in illegal factories = pennys. Cost for parts = pennys again. That's why a rep with a Swiss movement is $80-100 more - that's the cost of the movement you're paying for, where as the Chinese copy they would otherwise use would again cost them pennys.
Penalties vary...it's only really copyright infrignement they can prosecute you for, massive fines though if caught in a Western country.

This is a new shopping mall in Guangdong provence in China, bigger than the Trafford centre or Bluewater or whatever.
And it ONLY sells fake/replica products.

Go to an AD, say you want a new Planet Ocean or normal auto Seamaster. See what discount they'll give you. Then say you need to sell your current watch first etc. Chances are they'll give you a half decent price as they can then pass it on for the same....

Interesting thread.
Nat/Yoza, with the good copies (ie $300+) do they last well? What I mean is does the paint on the bezel start chipping off etc?
Who do you think does the best copy of a Rolex daytona?

Yes, they last well i imagine. The decent one's (supposedly) have Eta movements in them which are the same as used by the majority of the worlds popular luxury watch makers (omega, Breitling, Tag etc) so they will last forever with servicing. I say supposedly because real Swiss Eta movements are now v v limited but the Chinese copies are 99% as good these days. If you take something simple and copy it exactly then if is for all purposes the same.
The cases and bracelts are 316 Steel or Titanium same as the real thing (apart from Rolex which uses a different grade of steel) so they will last. Crystals are Saphire like the real thing.
The finish on the bezels of real watches will scratch/chip pretty easily which is why Rolex has just started using a ceramic bezel that won't. The reppers in China have already perfectly copied this though! If you want you could buy a genuine bezel for a rep watch and swap it out. $30-50 maybe.
