I PM'd him when it was on ebay. He doesn't have pics of the damage but said it wasn't that bad (although I guess he would)

He doesn't have any history previous to his ownership and said that the rebuild was done by a garage or someone that knows subarus.

Personally I think he sounded pretty genuine. The price IMO reflects the market. Type Rs on ebay struggle to get over 5K and look mint. P1s of 10K plus will hang around for some time.

If it wasn't so far away I'd buy it. I'm planning to spend at least that on a V5 STI but it is low mileage and has all history since new.

Heres what he sent me.

The repairs where carried out at a bodyshop called AutoMotion, Corporation Rd, Birkenhead. It had a new wing, an alloy bonnet, bumper and splitter. The hole front end was painted with sides just blown in to match. Still have the prodrive badges for the wings but never got round to putting them on! Unfortunately i have no pictures pre repair(kicking myself now)just didnt think at the time about when i came to sell. I am the 4th owner of the car to date, the car was previously owned by someone in Kent (still have their details)they could possibly have past documents for the car ie history, mot's. I have past 2 mot's whilst ive owned it. The engine block came from a guy in southport who races impreza's, this was for his own car but ended up emigrating to aus! Came up at the right time. Work was done at a garage local called MD Motors. It wasnt remapped as it doesnt have a d-cat so didnt feel the need to. Interior is spot on very clean no rips or tears. Will try to get more detailed pics up soon, these were just ones already on my phone! Hope this helps a little. Thanks, graham
Sounds OK to me. As long as its not about to let go I think its sound enough

As pointed out, the bumper is the incorrect type and the boot looks just out of sync, the off side looks slighly more promenent than the near side, she may have been jigged, your best bet is to get a full inspection, it may still cost you a bit to get everything sorted and you may want to replace that front bumper with a proper item
Still, there are some nice P1's available for the 8k mark with decent mileage or some JDM type R's for 5 or so k

Do a picture comparison between this and that other p1, look at the boot, wings etc, still your best seeing it in the flesh to decide weather you want it or not

Subaru : Subaru Impreza P1 (No. 638 of 1000). £8000 on

Tony

EddScott....WOW! That is some good info there mate thanks a lot for that! He does sound pretty genuine too IMO so i'll just see how it goes unless i get it on a jig i doubt i'll get right to the bottom of it.

I've had 3 scoobys now and all classics so if it dosn;t drive/handle right i'll know from the off..might just have to wing it and see how lucky i am.

Tony i hear what your saying mate..i'll inspect it properley in proper light It just seems to good to pass up with it being so close to me.

Alan, its probably more of a close escape ok your not going to see another P1 in that price range (well not a straight one! ) but you will find type R's falling into that bracket for you

1998 SUBARU IMPREZA WRX/STI TYPE R on eBay, also, Subaru, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 15-Feb-09 19:30:00 GMT)

Well worth a look as when it was in Faster's hands it was well looked after

Yeah your right Tony I've always been the type to own a car with loads of history anyway so maybe it just wasn't meant to be.

Midlife...that is an awesome scooby mate but i won't have more than 4.5K after paying the extra on my insurance so that's all i'd have
