Talking about the reduction in power to the wheels because of 4WD is to miss the point. While cornering, the 4WD car can put twice as much power down as the FWD car because it can share the load across all four tyres.

Yeah but the post above was about no mini even with 400bhp out dragging a scoob, yes scoobs are good at going round corners but so are evo`s, skylines and supras. On any track there is obviously corners as well as straights and as someone said its down to driver skill.

Just because a scooby engine and gearbox has problems with 300+ bhp it doesn't mean the rules apply across the board - for your info the 1.8t from the TT / S3 is a very strong bit of kit...
Palmersport use it in there single seater chamiponship running 250bhp with a 300bhp overboost button and have never had an engine failure

Have been in Gary's Car and it puts down the power with no problem (the racelogic does the business)

as for cost, £3200 for an engine and 6 speed gearbox that is good for 270bhp and 300+ lbs torque without doing anything apart from a re-chip seems a bit of a bargain....

"A Mini, even a very very very fast Mini, is not going to out drag a Scooby T of any description"

JKJ2 - don't bet on it - there's a guy in Finland running a Mini with a transverse-mounted Rover V8 - I kid you not.

You also need to remember that the mini is only half the weight of the scoob, with a lower c of g which is bound to help it.
You want to see them kick *** in historic saloon racing against 400-500bhp Camaros & Mustangs and the like.

Have to agree with Andrew on the Mini front. The fastest Mini I heard of was the V8 one but then again it wasn't really a mini more like an big engine with a front of a mini. The most you can fit in an engine bay of a mini is a 2 litre vauxhall engine. I read some guy had it done, done 0-60 in about 5.5 secs. Fast as a scoob but I can't see it blowing one away.

Talking about mad mini's

There is a mini shell at least (I belive full the internals also) running a cosworth 2litre turbo (std.) buzzing around Woking in surrey,it's silver with Mclaren stickers all over it, but's it's fekking fast !!

This guy could upset quote a number of perfromance cars 250bhp in a mini !!fast....trust me

Ever seen the slogan

"Never underestimate a mini"

Its true, a while back I had a Montego Turbo ( Which was a lot better car than you might have expected) and got wasted by a tuned 1.1 Clubman, I had him from a standstill but he cruised past at about 40 which is the opposite to what I thought would happen.

Still it was a race tuned top end on standard bottom end, lasted a year before exploding, the big end cap came through the bulkhead (along with a lot of oil)

Pete, 0-60 in that mini was restricted by traction.

My Teg hits 60 in about 6.2-6.5. Gets to 100 as fast as an MY01

Ergo, quicker 60 to 100. Which is why, once rolling the @teg will surprise a lot of Scoobs.

So, take one Mini, stick a 2L vauxhall 16 valve with better cams and fuelling, and you'd have, say, 185 Bhp.

Same as the Integra, but less weight. A lot less weight.

So such a mini would be a fair bit quicker than a scoob between, say, 50 and 100.

Christ! this threads expanded a bit since my last post.
At last Minis on Scoobynet, at last I can post about something I really know about, as opposed to me Scoob which I know a bit about!
In reverse order.
Yes you can buy a subframe to fit the Honda VTEC motor into a Mini, it fits under a standard round front with careful selection of rad etc. Its an increasingly popular conversion with Mini owners abroad as the engine is at the moment more readily available than the most common Brit choice......the Vauxhall 2L 16V motor, normally fitted running on carbs or throttle bodies, but now more are being done turbo'd.
The firm who makes the frames (AMT in Chesterfield) also do a conversion to Cossie engine management for the Vaux motor, this means they can churn out serious power. There's one in America that put out 400bhp before it was shipped out but runs more boost now. The engine was basically just your ultimate wish list.
AMT have a engine waiting to go in a Mini at the moment with full 'WRC' spec induction system (it runs a hydrid Porche/Cossie plenum etc) its a test bed engine and rated at 500bhp (and more to come till it goes bang!).
My fave though was Mr Moneybags who had a frame modified to fit an ex Touring Car Engine and sequential 6 speed box!
Myself I'm making do with around 190bhp and will fit a quaife LSD soon.

I love my Scoob but my Mini is my Baby!

Talking of Integra R's when i had my A3 t sport only a measley 150bhp i had a teg come up behind me whilst booting it from about 60 to 110, **** it caught me like i was going backwards! since then ive given them great respect and would maybe consider one when this scoob ownership gets to expensive!
never come up against one in my scoob but the way that one performed it would be bloody close or even a struggle i must admit!
minis? havent touched one for 14 years so cant comment

Friend of mine has a mini with metro turbo engine in. The whole thing is lightened, balanced etc, low comp with relatively massive i/c and loads of boost running 200 bhp.

Engine does come out for a rebuild at the end of the summer, and gets finished at the end of winter, but it is mental!

Used to keep up with my cossie (300 bhp_ to 70 mph, even though it was torque-steering all over the road!

Check it out:

Rich,
That Mini is indeed mental, and once it has traction stays with the Lotus up to 100mph! It obviously can't match the Cossie, but then again - what can....

Incidentally my engine dynoed 515.4bhp Cossie lump has now done over 17k miles with no problems what-so-ever - so much for reliability issues . Some people just talk out of their backsides...

However, Scooby STI Type RAs (of any model) are drool worthy and I'd rather have a stripped out, caged and tuned one of those over any Golf. The engine beat is just pure heaven....

Pete_UK99,

That Finnish Mini is a full-bodied Mini Clubman and externally standard. I think the guy has used an Austin Princess gearbox and it still drives through the front wheels.

Sorry I can't remember how to add a hotlink, but its worth making the effort to re-type...www.geocities.com/jharkola/Viku2.html

Just to keep u updated, there was at least 4 subarus, 2 of them were 3 door, but not P1's, so im guessing Sti's (someone there said there was a 22b there too, but i didnt see it ). there was a white 4 door with gold rims n huuge sti type spoiler too, and a different white 4door one (WAS a wrx as saw it closer).

They was all goin so fast round the roundabout they was hanging the back end out (another reason they prob were sti as they more rear bias), all modded with at least an exhaust (one popped the odd flame ).

cheers

It's a pity the council ruined the track (s-bends) as it used to be a great night. The dual carigeway at the BP garage is ok but the speeds the cars a doing at the end often ends in trouble. I was having a play two weeks ago when a cavalier lost it big time into the barrier. I think the mini has a 2 or 2.5 zetec in it.

Thumbs up

Anyone who has been to the 'ring' will know a certain mini van with a Vtec engine. It was one of the quickest cars there and it blew Stef into the weeds (but that's not hard is it )

It probably helped that the driver was a bit handy too but you get the picture. I think it even had Mike R....

Floyd,
I was never on track with the Mini, but I have no doubt he would have blown me away. I saw him out accelerate an STi Type RA round the "show-boat" complex - you know the downhill bit that leads into the lovely sideways corner for the spectators...
Best regards

HI,
All this talk of Mini's. I just had to reply
As for out dragging a scooby in the wet? Well I couldn't out drag a old granny in the wet, but as Mike Rainbird said "and once it has traction" and that's in the dry! So that Mini must have been quite a well set up car to do that.

The memory's a bit fuzzy (all that booze at the time) sorry! It was probably the ring taxi II that it passed when I was the 'fare'

I think that corner is called Brunchen and yes he was frighteningly quick.

From what I understand from Gary Handa of very fast MK4 Golf fame 360BHP is the most power viable froma 1.8T engine until someone makes a salid crank for it, so he'll be missing his target for 400 brake by a few ponies for a while...

As for Scoobies being beaten, I have overtaken numerous Scoobies on track and Cosworths and MK4 Golfs with my standard engined mk2 Golf GTI - I like to think it is down to the driver

I guess my point is owning a fast car does not make you a good or fast driver! And on the road it is more likely to fool who will take most risks that will be fastest...
