Do it mate, it's not hard.
Just make sure you take lots of pics so you remember where everything goes.

Is the knocking constant? does it go after a period of time? what's it doing when revved?

£1300 sounds 'too' to me ...normally around £2500-£3K plus the dreaded from someone who knows what they're doing

hmm dont tempt me. Im not scared to give it a go.. Juts would need tons of information for when i got it all apart and what to do exactly.

The noise is there when you start up, but dies a little when warm.. Thats why i thought it was piston slap, but with piston slap, it goes when engine is warm...This doesnt..
The moment i drove into the garage they said it was big end, as the engine was warm from the drive down and the noise was still there.

Without a full strip down. a proper diagnosis cannot be done. Hence why im figuring out alternatives..

But if it needs a full strip down, it may aswel be fully rebuilt and recon'd
