Back on topic. That looks nice. I was thinking of putting some pics either side of the TV, but thought they may prove distracting when viewing. Do you find that?

Scooby L - That's quite nice. Clean lines, in fact awesome lines, everything if set off very well and that menas that the emphasis is not on the kit at all, in fact it blends in and you hardly notice it - well done
Deep - Try selling everything you own - it takes a while - i did it, what if I liked my GF? Feelings just get in the way of what i might want to do, I can get a job anywhere but before i had one that was stressful and demanding so i changed that, walking away from a house(s) you own is not practical in any way, esp if you might not come back and you have a lot of money tied up in them that you would then lose...esp if a lot of people are after that money...
I never want kids of another relationship. I don't feel any need for either. I have completely stopped all thoughts and feelings of that sort.
You don't need to be a millionaire to retire at any time - you don't even need more than a months worth of cash in the bank. All you need is the right amount coming in every month

Deep..Not at all mate they do not detract one bit
Nat: Cheers I was trying to get the plasma as "invisible" as possible while keeping it simple... ideally I want ot replace the S8's with walnut floor standers and also replace the unit with one that has glass (or mirrored) doors as I now have a 8 month son (soon to be mobile!)

That room looks beautifully done and for my taste the plasma is way too high up the wall.
Your eyes should be level with a point around 60-70% up the screen from the bottom.
Maybe you are very tall or have a high sofa!

Yes that's been mentioned before (on other threads! including AVforums)
I wanted the pictures (and plasma) all the same height, so they all blended together... and then I was toying with having a fake fire wall mounted below the panni... but changed my mind... it's wierd but you really do not notice it "in the flesh" the pics exagerate the height LOL (plus the ceilings low in the lounge)

Now this debate about having all the kit on show versus hiding it away is all very well if we are only taking looks into account, but what about sound quality. Speakers place right next to cabinets etc. do not do much for the sound quality, nor does sitting equipment in any old cabinet just because it looks nice.
You lot would be horrifed at my set up, but then I just want it to sound as good as it can and not really bothered if you can see boxes and wires etc.
No I am not going to post a pic

Do you not find the light around the TV causes a distraction, or do you leave it off when watching the screen
Trout
I thought in some respects it would be better to have the screen higher up than normal, as this is how we watch films in the cinema (it is all I use my TV for, so I guess Im a little different LOL)
my 'Home Cinema' setup (no pics sorry) is a 100" motorised projector screen in front of the windows and hides away under the curtain rail, and then Missions all round, with a Yahama DSP 492 amp and Yamaha DD Decoder, I have 2 Projectors a DLP one and an LCD one, one is a BenQ (DLP) and the other InFocus
The screen came out of a Pub, and the one of the projectors did, and the other projector came from work so cost very little
Speaker wire all runs under the carpet and the projector, amp dvd laserdisc etc is all housed in a small room off the front living room with just a small hole cut out in the stud wall for the projector to come through
The back living room (the larger room) has a 42inch rear projection TV

The old big Pub RGB Projectors were the best in their day image quality was usually outstanding and black was actually black
The downsides where that they had to be converged by an engineer and like you have found out 'heavy as ****'

Notwithstanding the fact that I will be devastated if Nat doesn't like it, here's mine.
Hope it gives some inspiration to anyone considering doing their own DIY set-up, it wasn't too difficult. I still need to get around to adding a couple of pictures either side of the tv, but other than that I'm happy with it.

The only time we ever have them on is if we are having a cinema night with all the other lights off etc. For general viewing they are left off. They don't distract at all, in fact all 3 of us prefer watching a big film with the big sound with them on.
Daryl - really liking that. not 100% on the cheesy blue neons but other than that...
F1-fan - totally agree with you and i certainly would not be horrified by your set up.. As much as i don't like boxes everywhere, i would still rather have the best possible sound.
If i had a separate cinema room i would have everything completely open. Unfortunately my complete downstairs area is open plan so you can see the system from the dining room and kitchen. That's why i decided to cover it all up. (well, that and the fact the old lady told me i could do what i wanted as long as she could not see any boxes or wires)

Daryl, I love the look of your lounge (I'm sure I've seen it before on avf) but I agree with F1 fan. To me its all about the sound and image quality.
As a result in ceiling speakers would never hit the spot, I have to have full range floor standers. I'm after as close to an audiophile sound as I can afford.
For home cinema I want the full fat experience, hence I have a subwoofer that is 4.5ft tall. Its not about ***** waving, but about function,
As I said though, your lounge looks lovely.
I will post some pics of mine when I get time, I think its a mixture of form and function
