Luke will no longer be participating in this "debate". Whilst it was highly amusing to watch his posts being picked to pieces, his agressive and abusive trolling has clearly not been tempered by the short bans he has had, therefore as he is obviously not here to contribute to the community, he has been removed.

I miss the bombing runs and the instant abuse from EVERYONE. It wasn't always my fault that they were under the damn things
I got to Lt Col before giving up... there seemed to be more and more cheats popping up and it stopped being fun.
I really do miss the satisfaction of some of the flying though - especially as I finally managed to suss the A-10 out

There have been incident that have meant that some local restrictions to wearing uniform in public remain in place but in the main it is now acceptable.

I see more and more men and women in uniform now where I live
When I left (2002) it was still banned, or frowned upon to wear your work clobber off base.
A few idiots shouldn't make it change.

AFAIC you have the vast majority of public support Jon, I hopefully think that we can propagate this support without the PC brigade getting in the way. It's testing times, and I'd hate to see military personal suffer in a similar way to our Police. Time to stand up and be counted. IMO.
Getting more and more fecked off with things without wanting to bleat :/

Sad really.
If I was still in the RAF I wouldn't wear it off base, simply due to being involved when it was dangerous to do so.
4 years at Aldergrove was enough for me to be careful

My personal experience of the public perception of us has always been good, so apart from the odd individual I'm comfortable with unifrom in public, but TBH it never concerned me in 1993.
As for MIRC, the majority of my day job at the moment revolves around MIRC and the NATO equivalent JCHAT. What a small world

Those years where a lot more restrictive, but the risk was more real. The IRA knew the dangers of random attacks against the general public and how it lost them support so we where acceptable targets. AQ doesn't discriminate because military or not we are all the infadel

Indeed.
That's another reason I wouldn't wear it off camp now, either! They've bombed here, are happy to recruit here, so the time will come that they hit someone here IMO.

The last time I wore mine in Public was for a corps bet.
I had to stand on table in an Aldershot Pub, stick on my green lid and announce Para's were *******.
I got biggest hiding I have ever had or ever will have.
Broken Jaw, six weeks carrying side cutters in my pocket incase I puked.
But I got £50 from everyman in my troop, a pat on the back from the CO and a plaque on the ranks mess wall that was there for a good few years after I left.
Happy days

What you've missed Daz is he talks about his Regiment. Even the RAF Regiment are stilled formed in Flights, led by a Flight Leiutenant (OF-2), subordinate to Squadrons commanded by a Squadron Leader (OF-3). They then work to Wg Cdrs (OF-4) etc.
The Air Force doesn't have Regiments

They used to have Rapier Missiles up until recently, but now consist of "Field Sqns" which provide Force Protection at RAF expeditionary units.

Two old friends of mine both works as trade group 3 (Comms) techs on the Rapier force for many years. Not something I personally ever did. However, losing the rapier capability has meant the RAF Regiment has become a much more focused force protection set-up particularly when it comes to airfield defence which was the role they where established to undertake.
I have worked with the RAF Regiment on numerous occasions throughout the years, 2 Sqn in Basra provide me with force protection when I went to certain locations, and I even managed to get out on partol with them. I have also been involved the RAF's BOWMAN radio conversion which brought me back in contact with the Regiment as well as spending 2 years as part of Nuclear Accident Reponse Team.
Highly professional bunch of guys and like all of the teeth arms I have the utmost respect for them. Me, I'm just a REMF. A comms engineer with time spent in the weapons world as well, but rarely getting into the fray in the same way.

My word, you were a Fg Off in the RAF.... Hardly a position of great achievement or one that commands respect.
To leave as the lowest level as an officer you either served for about 3 years or got a commission and then left very soon into it.
Your saluting period would have been very short!

I was sitting at lunch today when one of the other technicians sat next to me with a copy of the Mail which had the Luton solders march story on the front page. She then went on to say how awful this was, one of the other technicians agreed with her and started to go on how these solders were out in Iraq defending our liberty, and if the protesters didn’t like it they should just go back to where the came from. At that point she realised what she had just said sitting opposite a Sikh with a Turban and full beard.
I have to admit that I am anti war, five years ago when this war started I was outside parliament with a make tea not war sticker on.
Do I agree with these victory marches designed to recruit new solders to go out and fight in Iraq and Afghanistan, no.
But on the other hand I wouldn’t go out to a victory parade, to have a go at solders. It wouldn’t be right, and would cause harm to my cause.
So as a brown skin and bearded rag head should I go back to Pakiland because I don’t agree with the war?
And where will this end, will I be sent back to Ilfordstan for disagreeing with the popular opinion on any other government policy. Will I be hung for treason for voting Libdem.
When we look to oppress peaceful demonstrations, it is our own liberties that are threatened.
And at the end of the day Iraq was never a threat to us, there were no weapons off mass destruction, Tony Blair lied to us.
Well any way I couldn’t believe some of racist comments I’ve read. When I was growing up I used to see it all the time, I lived right at the edge of Ilford the last bit before Dagnem. I’ve been beat up spat at called all sorts of things.
Has any one been to the medical college at QMW and seen the brown skinned people there or been to hospital and seen the brown skinned doctors there. If we were all to hand back our jobs to deserving indigenous population, the NHS will collapse. And quite frankly I pay my taxes, and have a little red passport. And if any one is not happy with my right to pacifism or to peaceful protest, maybe they should go and live in Libya or America or where ever.
On a final note, maybe I should support the war. It is after all good for business. It stimulates the economy from the top down (arms sales, and building contracts).
And from the bottom up; A previously unskilled workforce, is trained in a skill set, and upon return to civilian life they hold better jobs than they would have other wise, and are able to pay more taxes, borrow more money ect.
And as a middle class Asian, like most other middle class Asians I own and rent out a few houses. And at the moment some of my houses are rented out to the council. If the renting market would pick up I could charge more renting out privately, and if cheap credit became more readily available I could maybe by a few more properties.
But for some reason I find it hard to look at people as a commodity. Maybe that will change as I get older, My dad didn’t get from being working class immigrant, to being middle class business man by being emotional.
If I live in this country I should abide by its laws, and its laws allow peaceful demonstrations.
BTW, I’m not a Muslim, I’m Sikh, but I still feel offended by the ‘go back to your own country, if you don’t agree with us’ sentiment.
