08 Sti what a gorgeous car

Basically the 330s is a Euro Premuim STi with PPP, the engine is the same as a UK STI.
The figures were got with the Prodrive exhaust (whatever that consists of), a litchfield CAI and the Ecutek remap.
The figures were achieved via the software, a run was done in 3rd/4th which achieved 317 bhp and when finished another run in 3rd/4th which achieved 384 bhp.
A misconception amongst the press is that the 330s comes with different suspension, it doesn't but a spring/bush kit is coming or has been for the last 5 months!!!. I am going to go down the route of the T20 suspension setup soon.

Personally I prefer the saloon shape, I think they should of killed the impreza name off after the hawkeye because the hatch is just too far removed from an impreza for me. Thats not to say I wouldnt have one. Motorprovider.co.uk were selling brand new WRX's last week for £13k - what a lot of car for the money!!

Why? Ford did the same with the Escort in 83. It went on to produce the likes of the RS turbo and Cosworth. Subaru have made a marketing choice with the hatch, which they are not alone in, and hopefully it will prolong the Impreza name and the brand by looking for a bigger customer base.

Fantastic car if you ask me, having driven one they pull like a train all through the gears and they handle great as a standard car. I would uprate the brakes and the suspension and you then have a great all round performance car, add a few more horses and there is not much that will keep it at bay
Still considering this myself although the piston life has me worried as i want to use mine on track alot

one final question...
I should have asked this earlier to Rob, or Clive, or Simon ...
What is the max boost now ? 1.2 or 1.3 ?
Just wondered why the Litchfield package which is tuned for 355bhp - comes out 25 - 30 horses down ? Do you think this is a safety feature not giving it too much boost ?
I mean think about it - Mog's / Clives 330s doesnt have a full exhaust (original downpipe etc) but makes whopping power. Another 25 - 30bhp more than a car running a full Milltek (decent bit of kit).
Now I certainly dont want to start any sort of negative feedback, but is it a case of better mapping, or simply more boost, or a conservative side shown to preserve engine life.
Maybe Iain would spill the beans (come on mate, I did buy one of your imports off you 5+ years ago) ?
Just wondered if anyone can shed any light before I start to plan what to do first : )
Thanks...

Wow !
1.4 bar peak wow ! Is this pretty high for standard internals ?
To be honest I thought this was a little high (certainly not an expert in any matter Subaru) ... but would love someone to tell me that these engines can run that boost all day long - no problemo.
My last WRX was mapped at 1.19 bar peak and we got 285bhp with filter and exhaust. I was told by Pat Herborn that this was the max safe power as even going up to 1.25 bar didnt gain any more 'real' benefits.
So with the bigger Sti lump - I presume that it can take more boost... is this right ?
Thanks in advance...

would be intresting to see what the turbo response is like on mog's with the standard cat downpipe still fitted, as mine with the full decat is rather sharp to say the least lol but its all good lol

1.5bar is fine.. I only stopped at 1.4bar on Clives as it has ppp exhaust on/OE downpipe and tend to find it chokes higher rpm too much.
Presume Rob's is aftermarket exhaust?
WRX is a different ball game.. the td04 turbo blows hot air above 1.2bar hence that is the best boost to run on one, in general anyway

The only two 08 sti's Id consider:
Type 20 or JDM 08 Sti & mod it myself
Driver's Republic - Super Specials 034

It still looks like a Dawoo and for the same money you can have a manual EVO X, im sorry but rally reps dont do satnav comfort and economy, ive driven enough 2.5 converts and the 2.0 litre is a better engine by far, leave the 2.5 lazy to the yanks, its got no character and neither has the new SUBADAWOO impreza. BY the way how many have been seen out and about.

Good to see a thread getting going on the hatch STI and what people are doing tuning wise. I can't be bothered to talk about how it looks anymore or if it has character, I really don't care if some people don't like it, I do
Very happy to see someone has got 380bhp and could go a bit more (400bhp) from the standard turbo/injectors, if someone made a motorsport fuel pump that fits.
I have the Powerstation/Lichfield upgrade; turbo back sports cat milltek exhaust system, panel filter and re-map and I am running 340bhp at the moment. I am very happy with this upgrade, it's a weapon at 2am in the morning when the red mist comes down and as I have to use the car everyday, an indicated 38mpg in i-mode at 70mph on a motorway run speaks for itself. A good compromise for an everyday driver I think. This extra power has highlighted other issues with the steering, suspension, brakes and DCCD settings that I need to work on though.
Good to know there is more potential but I like the idea of having a bigger buffer for reliability at the moment (having had piston 3 fail at 3,700miles). I'm not saying all UK 2.5 engines have chocolate pistons, just that the standard cast pistons are a potential weak point on what is otherwise a strong engine/gearbox/drivetrain. When money allows and the mood takes me I will re-map up to the higher figures, with a set of forged pistions, and spec-c type engine/gearbox oil coolers. I drive my cars hard and don't like having that nagging thought in the back on my head all the time that something might let go, like I had in my Bugeye WRX after the 3rd replacement gearbox went.

Pretty easy to tell how big the customer base is ....how many have you seen on the road?

I hated the bugeye shape at launch and now i own one and love it! I hated the hawkeye even more, but that will be the replacement for my bugeye because i've grown to love it. as for the new shape, only time will tell, but i can't see myself ever getting over the fact it looks like a mazda.
