I couldn't comment. I have no idea how to use either outside of policing. I don't even think we can change display colours/alert tones etc.
I've been told we're getting a new model of our Airwaves walkie-talkie things too. I'm not sure why they've gone for a colour screen on that as the black & white displays eat enough battery power as it is.
Technology, eh? You'd think we'd have enough toys to play with as it is.

free wifi spots, thats what i want. every one seems to use btopenzone or the cloud. can the bb display what wifi networks are availble and method of encryption. i take it connecting to the internet via a wifi connection will NOT count towards your 500MB monthly limit on voda
also does the bb try to coonect to the internet in a certain order i.e wifi,hdspa,3g,gprs,2g (fastest to slowest). can i force the bb to connect in this way. im thinking 500mb is might not last that long. then again i might be talking out my ****

When you turn the WiFi on it will display all networks available so you choose which one to connect to.
As for order of preference, ask on Crackberry, im sure you will get the answer clearly and quickly.
Connecting via WiFi will NOT count towards your data usage allowance, no.
Like I say, unless im downloading software etc, I rarely use much over 60mb lol. But now I am on BBIM a lot more, file transfers on that are adding up now lol.

My Blackberry bold failed on me after 1 week. The battery was poor and the phone started to overheat badly. Being returned today

Is this your first BB?
Apps are the bit that make it seem a bit more "yours" lol. Some good ones out there. And BBIM is my favorite right now
I have not gone the route of the custom shell yet, but I can see it happening!

They wanted to change the battery only but since we are still in the 14 day period I asked for a whole new handset. First BB yeah, its a works phone so not really been into phones in the past but I do admit Im liking the Blackberry. Still not convinced on battery life though.
Apps dont really interest me too much tbh, quite like the idea of that giving different colours thingy for different notifications etc

Some of the apps are just great for passing time, games, news feeds, weather, and so on. The list is endless. BBM is a must though I have to say lol
dave, on reading some reviews, i have learnt that having 3G and wifi switched will seriously drains the battery (just about 24 hours). Personally i shall be buying another charger for in work and a 12v for the car, just incase. belt n braces for me i'm afraid. i have become to self reliant on my phone. how the **** did we manage before mobiles, i've fogotten?
I manage well with my battery. 4 hours of cainnig the web and BBM in the hospital waiting room the other day, and I still only went down to 30%.. Only started with 65% anyway. USB charging while at work though the PC is my saviour.
As for how we managed...... Gawd knows!! lol I love my BB

knew I spoke to soon.
My bold has crashed today, I'm getting a JUM 102 error message on startup, blank screen with this in the centre. Anyone else suffered from this?
Oddly I installed the flashing led program from the previous page this morning, I suspect that could have something to do with it
I found this website,
JVM Error 102 - Step by Step Fix - PinStack.com
Seems to sort the problem, i'm out of the office today so will have to try tomorrow. Thank god for my NC10 netbook to get me through the rest of the day

is bbm the same as the instant messenger on the phone. trawled the forums to quite late. new bold cant receive contacts via bluetooth. you have to send your self vcards via mail an add everyone individually. some names are going to be culled. last count just over 400 names. i aint adding each one individually, no way hosé

I tried a few online solutions to no avail. Then phoned t-mobile this morning at 11, they also tried a few fix's and after trying a whole new software install (PC wouldn't recognise phone) they have given up and are couriering me a brand new bold tomorrow between 8-1. I'm quite happy as I have had mine since October and had the odd scratch on it.
I'm convinced it was the blackberry alerts download that has caused the problem, maybe a warning to other bold users.
Great service.

The Tmobile G1 is a real competitor to the Blackberry, with a hard qwerty keyboard, excellent, browser and email. I know it lacks in certain departmentsat the moment, but for a first attempt, google/HTC have done well.
The recent firmware updates and the ability to root(hack) the phone unleashes further features, eg wifi tethering. More firmware updates are due soon which include video recording a screen keyboard aswell. Flash 10 is being developed for early next year which very few smartphones have at this moment.
Android market is developing everyday.

Could have done it easier than that.... fixing a nuked blackberry that the pc wont recognise is easy :
BlackBerry 101: How to Reload the Operating System on a Nuked BlackBerry | CrackBerry.com
Had to do it myself once when a beta OS didnt like one of my themes and nuked it..
b
But as you have a new one on the way.... problem solved for you
No problems with BBalerts personally..wouldnt have recommended it if there was any doubt in my mind about its reliability.

I would not have thought there was a problem either to be honest, but if you noted thats where the problem started, maybe its clashed with something.
Did it say on the site that it was or was not compatible with the phone?
Glad your getting it sorted though mate, and hope you are fully backed up, so a restore is possible. Result getting a nice new one though. Get the OS etc all up to date before reloading everything on it
Andy, the only things I dont like about the G1.... Moving parts worry me, and I am too addicted to the BB messenger now lol

I'm not certain BBalerts caused this and should stress that, maybe just a coincidence and the nuked phone was going to happen anyway. It is a top addition to the BB and I will try it again.
I'm happy to have a new BB anyway.
