Unusual to not be able to unbrick a BB, it's usually pretty straight forward, unlucky I guess.
Chop, are you running a bog standard os or updating to newer versions?

I have had it since October, I was told at the time I was one of the first t-mobile customers to have one. Had been waiting for an upgrade and I have a few phones off them. I was running the original software which seemed fine, although I know a lot of early bolds had software glitchs. Maybe I should have installed an update.

Would deffo suggest updating to the latest non beta version, it's pretty painless and will make a massive difference to battery life, responsiveness, web browsing, bug fixes etc.
I don't think .247 is official yet, but is getting great reviews.

But we all know thats cos of your Sony being pants to get the contacts off eh mate lol.
I would definatly recommend regular back ups and updating to the newest non beta OS asap too.
Let the apps and mods begin

Semper, if you dont NEED 3G, get the 8900 Curve
Neil, check that its not constantly sending data, wifi is off if not being used and the same for bluetooth. Connections manager is your friend.
Something not right there at all. I can spend hours on messenger etc and hardly touch the battery. Check what apps you have running too, incase GPS is on or something. alt-shift-h

yeah course you can
3G is really only going to affect connection speed, and video calling which I dont think the BB's support anyway.
So its all down to speed of data connection. GPRS and EDGE usually supply what I want at the speed I want.

No point in rushing though, a test drive is a good idea, but you will need a few days really to decide if you like it or not.

After a week of being messed around by Carphone Whorehouse in cancelling my contract for the 'i'amgayphone I have finally ordered my Bold direct from 02!
I searched around on the web, and although they all have 'issues', Blackberry owners seemed on the whole, far more happy than others with their purchase.
02 were offering me a deal where I would get the BBold for free + £80 of credit, but the unit would be 'refurbished', which usually means returned in the 14 day exchange plan.
Being a brainless tart I decided I wanted a brand new one, and so paid £50 for it rather than having £80 credit!

haha bless ya mate. I get like that at times about things. Would have been hard pushed not to accept the credit but can see why you went for it.
ANY device will always throw up some issues along the way, but like you say the support and opinions of most BB users is that they are happy to work through the issues and overall are happy with their devices

My Bold arrived today.
Browsing the internet is not as easy as the iphone, but everything else seems really good. At least it works which is more than can be said for the two iphones I had
A couple of quick questions please
1) How can I turn off the bleep that goes off when a txt or email arrives? I keep my phone on all night, and don't want to be woken up.
2) Can I get it to ring and vibrate when a call comes, I can only seem to get it to do one or the other
3) Is it possible to move the icons on the main menu around? I'd like to get the keypad lock higher up the chain, so I don't have to scroll all the way down?
Many thanks

Main menu screen, move over the icon you want to move, press BB key (left of trackball) select move, and voila
Sounds and vibrate, go to "profiles" its the speaker icon, click it, scroll down to advanced, select the profile you want to adjust, then select the program and alert you want to change.
Hope that makes sense.
If not, add me on BBM 254D4E45
PS..... welcome to Blackberryism lol

Thanks Snazy, moved the icon.
When I click advanced under profiles the page just reads;
Loud
Vibrate
Quiet
Normal (active)
Phone only
Off
So I can select vibrate OR normal/loud/quiet etc, but how to do both?
Also how do I stop the emails making a noise when they arrive? (Even though its not working yet for some reason, despite a confirmation message saying its active)
Thanks again

Try scrolling down on those options, you should have "advanced" underneath them all. Let me know if you get that far and we can go from there

The ring/vibrate/ring alternate thing is a pain in the *** I agree....
soooo....set your profile to 'tone' (NOT tone & vibrate) in the advanced option of profiles... and then navigate to this link on your blackberry, and hit the link called 'buzzme.jad' which will download it to your blackberry.
link: Index of /misc/
Click on it, make sure it is enabled, then exit (it stays running in the background and consumes no CPU).
It will now vibrate and ring at the same time

Freak/Snazy, when I select advanced under profiles all I get is the page described in the last post. If I click any of those all iit does is select loud, vibrate, quiet etc. Nothing else.
I haven't loaded thhe CD onto my PC and connected my BB, would that have anything to do with it?

Nope not having the CD loaded will not change the BB so to speak.
If you want to ring and vibrate together you do (believe it or not) need additional software as above. Me, im happy with vibrate then ring
Not sure where you are going to find the profiles settings though, I would have assumed they were all in the same place. I shall do some asking about now though.
Get that CD loaded up and the newest OS on there though before you do much more else.

Right, DS, just spoken to a friend with a bold and its as I thought...
1/ from main matrix select the speaker icon (Profiles)
2/ from the drop down that appears , which should have a down triangle at the bottom) scroll right down, past off to Advanced
3/ click on advanced, all the profiles will again appear.
4/ click the profile you wish to edit, then from the next screen, select the alert you wish to change.
5/ now change to your preference the in and out of holster ringing and vibrating pattern and sound of the selected alert.
Its not as complex as that all makes it sound
