lol 280 pages? a learning to fly manual has less pages!
I've updated to .199 on my 8900 now, too early to report back any big changes yet though.

Have to say, the battery life is epic compared to my penchant of feature filled Nokia battery rapists.
I should do what the rest of the lads at work do and use it for calling and not keep a personal phone as well but its only good at phone and email, no camera and no Blackberry to date has a decent camera as far as I am aware.

OK a new fun app has popped up, some might have it already.
Are you new to a BB and already getting told you spend too long on it, etc..
Find out HOW long you spend on it with this app.
I Love BlackBerry Helps Determine How Addicted You Are! | CrackBerry.com
Download and install instructions just under the screen shot. Email is the easiest way to do it.
Works fine, not memory hungry, and is a proper little eye opener lol

Ah this thread has come back
Question re 3G and GPRS for you all (snazy)
Basically where I live doesn't have 3G coverage so my bold uses GPRS. The internet is slow at best. When i'm in 3G zones the internet is so much quicker. Shockingly so, like comparing a fiesta to a ferrari.
Now I have always been one to say having a phone that has 3G is not a valid reason to choose over a rival. Ie. buying the bold over the 8900. But now that I have used in regularly in both GPRS and 3G the gulf in speeds is massive and I would always buy a phone that operates on 3G.
Anyone else experience this as I'm surprised?

I have to admit "at times" when its on 3G its rather quick, but I would still not buy the Bold over the 8900 based on that
When you compare EDGE and 3G there is far less difference
And of course it came back, I would not dare start a new thread about Blackberrys, I mean, I might get set upon by bored people with nothing else to say

lol naaa I was not making into one of those either
I should rephrase it, if I wanted a particular handset I would not change my mind if it didnt have 3G.
I would agree though there CAN be a difference in speed, but from experience, being in London etc, its not stunning most of the time lol
Tis a good app, especially to find out who amongst a group uses theirs way too much lol.
Lets see peoples totals in a weeks time

chop i have noticed the same. 3G is deffo faster. i am lucky enough to work in Belfast city centre and there are enough open wireless connections that my internet browsing is a breeze. wireless is very fast. when i am at home i just connect up to my wireless router. as for the curve over the bold, a fella i work with got an 8900 curve and to be honest it just looks a bit well..................plasticy. just doesn't seem as solid as the bold and it also seems to be a bit cramped as well. i am glad i made the choice of bold over the curve, but horses for courses i suppose. installed the i love blackberry app just to see how much i use it. results in a few weeks.

oh btw i upgraded the OS to 5.0.099. seems to be pretty stable. browser is a wee bit ropey but not to bad. it has a tendency to freeze and reboot the handset. The boot screen is new and certainly my bold takes a long time to boot up but when it gets started it seems to be ok. a few apps (viggo especially didn't work at the start, but they have released version 3.0 which works perfectly now). Media player text is a little blurry on the timeline but other than that the benefits and tweaks seems to outweigh the little niggles that should be ironed out sometime this month when the OS is officially released. new memory manager, picture browser, flag functions on messages and loads of other little bits n piece make this the best OS i have used so far.
there is a pretty comprehensive review of the new 5.0 OS over at crackberry
bought a 16GB card and got a cracking wee app for converting video. Imtoo MPEG Encoder Ultimate does a real good job of converting just about every video file format there is.

I'm back on the Bold for the last few weeks, the 8900 has great battery life and takes a decent snap, but it does feel cheap and at times I do need the speed of 3g.
The Bold keyboard is just so tactile, really good to use and rarely make any typing mistakes.
I may send the 8900 off for some cosmetic work as it's been dropped about 30 times now and the shell is beaten to hell, I would do it myself but don't want to lose the warranty.

agree with the keyboard thing. just feels a lot more positive and that little extra bit of width makes all the difference (ohhh errrr missus) especially if you have fat "Homer" fingers like me. my leather case shell has no marks on it so far *taps head* as i haven't dropped it. i don't use the supplied case. i was surprised when my 8900 mate showed me that inserting the handset into the case actually puts it into standby. still don't use the case.
nice to be able to use both models comprehensively for an extended period. have used the bold for over a month now, i think it would be difficult for me to use an 8900 Curve now.

I must again confess that a friend at work who has the 8900 is unhappy with the feel of the phone, especially the battery cover.
Glad you guys have got the phones that best suit you though, and Neil, im glad you didnt listen to me lol.
Sadly on my lonely little 8320 all is well, but new OS's and other fancy things are far less forthcoming lol. In the meantime I am watching closely to see if the threatened new models will be on the market soon, and deciding what could possibly take the place of my beloved 8320. Something with memory would be a start!
I think maybe I dont use the internet on the phone enough to actually notice a major problem with 2G and EDGE. A few pages here and there is about my limit most of the time. The rest of the time its mail, BBM and Facebook lol
Glad everyone is happy with what they got though, til the next batch come out anyway. The next gen sound like a good bunch, Curves with touchscreen, optical trackballs....... whatever next

lol I love that feature, that it goes to sleep when its in, or on the case. I use an aftermarket case a lot of the time, far less fiddly.

OK, has anyone else been using "I Love Blackberry" over the past week or so?
If so, time to post your usage lol.
I think mine is not too bad at all.
PS email yourself via the "share your usage" setting, then cut and paste

Worst thing with Blackberry's is the ease at which you can make an emergency call!
Press the 'pearl button' once which is easy to do in your pocket, then automatically dialling 999 is only a further 2 presses away. I have a work Pearl 8100 and must have accidently called 999 at 10 times in the 2.5 years I've had the phone.
What was also bizare is the police actually turned up at my house after the phone had called 999 in my pocket, despite the phone being a work phone and presumably registered to my employers address!..

My Curve is only a few button presses away from emergency calls, but that said, most Nokia's and other mobiles will do that even with the keybad locked.

I would like a Blackberry. Many of my mates sp. police peeps have got them. But what puts me off about BBs is that they are so fugly looking things BB looks like an overtoasted thick bread slice with embedded peas for keys in it.
Are there any goodlooking models of Blackberry phone, or is it a model itself? Sorry for my ignorance about mobile handsets, but it has not been easy to spot any outstanding uncommon handset for last 3-4 years, let's face it.

The 8900 and Bold are a vast improvement. The Storm is a touchscreen. There are a few new models coming onto the market shortly.
You could always get a Pearl, more regularly sized and shaped, but not my thing.

Thanks, Snazy and Bigsinky. I shall have a look. Functionability of Blackberry is incontestable. Therefore I would like one. I have checked out Iphone type of handsets. Unfortunately, touch-screen function reminds me of my microwave. I will hunt down a nice BB for myself.

BB's are getting SO popular now, soon its gonna be BB's and iPhones, being the biggest handset sellers.
Let us know what you decide to go for and then we can all tell you 10 reasons why you made the wrong choice, unless its the handset WE each prefer lol.

Snazy, I have just been onto Blackberry site. I like BB RIM Smart Touch handset. This model is sleek and trendy, unlike a thick slice of bread KINGKONG version. Not sure if it is a flip-phone. If it is, I prefer it, anyway.
Now, I bet something is not so good about this model in comparison to your mighty KINGKONG model. I think this model is an upgrade of BB Storm.
Not sure if I can get this model with O2, my service provider Not sure if this model (unlocked) is being sold on Ebay, but Ebay buying can be dodgy as f**k with confusing warrantee etc. I need to do more research.
BTW, can you go on Scoobynet with this phone more comfortably than the other cleap n' cheerful phones? That has to be essential for a new phone for me.
I am a very unproud owner of my personal Motorola V3 Razor with shattered screen and dodgy battery ATM , and a Nokia crappy handset for work. I need to upgrade my style
