You can support WWF’s Earth Hour, to show that you care about people, wildlife
......candles that were probably carried on a huge container ship from China?

Couple of observations - if the WWF cared that much they wouldn't suggest turning off streetlights as animals won't be able to see to cross the road. . . carnage
- read somewhere that Sting did more harm to the planet every time he flew out to Brazil to check the rainforests than had he stayed indoors with all his leccy on

I don't get why promoting less waste of energy, particularly turning off lights in offices etc. after hours, is a bad thing?

Oh and download some torrents on my PC that has mega wattage power supply for no reason
Sadly, switch mode PSUs only supply the amount of power that the PC consumes: So if you can have a 800watt PSU, but the PC only uses 100watts then that is what is being used.

So, add a few graphics cards on SLi/Crossfire, preferably dual core GPUs, with a dual CPU motherboard running a pair of overclocked quad cores, and six hard drives for no reason. Then run something that'll properly stress it like 3dmark, with a few copies of Prime95 running a torture test in the background just for the hell of it.

Then maybe, just maybe you'll push 1000watts

Personally, your better off switching on the 2000watt fan heater and opening the window; its easier

Technically its not a bad thing.

But politically its promoting us to return to the dark ages (or carry on as we are and be taxed even more for the pleasure).

Turning off a light and then proclaiming your "being green" whilst ignoring every other environmental matter is daftness (like a coal/gas power station that will still burn the fuel should they incorrectly anticpate the demand).

The reasons have to be genuine; not political sandle-wearing showboating.

It's not promoting that, it's symbolic:

Taking part in WWF’s Earth Hour is a great way to show that you want action to tackle climate change. It is also an occasion to have some fun – and to raise funds to support our vital work to promote solutions to tackle climate change.
It's how you "demonstrate you want action" and "raise funds".

Nice to see SN doing it's bit, and the mods encouraging wastful behaviour.

So has Lizzy turned all the lights off in Buck Palace? What about the London Eye? And Blackpool (or am I too early for that?)

Anyway, left the fridge open, whist using the electric bottle opener to open the vino, got hubby a cold beer, and put the kettle on so it's warming up for the coffee in the morning.

Will turn the oven off soon, as the takeaway driver's just put all our security lights on.

Oh

I was sure I was going to wake up this morning and there was going to be joy and happiness everywhere, no more war or suffering, climate was stable from now till eternity and all the animals would be playing together like in a Disney film.

You're right nothing much has changed... the climate remains challenging and increasingly volatile, and it's still 90% likely that human activity is responsible

damn wish i'd have seen this earlier as i'd have gone out on to the hills round macc with my 20 million candle power torch and shone it at any house which turned its lights off at 8:30!

Mind you i'd probably get arrested as a illuminating terrorist!

I used the same amount of energy that we always use, so that I did not have to pay the rip off power suppliers any extra cash!

I turned my lights off at 8pm on the dot.

I was pulled shortly afterwards and advised that I was driving without due care and attention....

I really really hate all this eco crap when the Indian and Chinese economies will make all of this so completely irrelevant once they kick in again. Not to mention America...we all sit in a dark room self flagellating whilst the rest of the world takes the ****.

The 0 degree rise in temperature and the eco reports of the wrong sorts of ice really annoy me. There are a lot of serious problems in the world mostly to do with population rises and not anything to do with whether I have the telly on on eco day.

Just see who is the first to be branded racist if population control were to be brought up
