Running lean...need advice!
#32
At a rolling road day at Motorscope, Dastek it made 419.9bhp. Another turbo from the same batch made 430ish.
Fuelling seemed spot on from what I remember, still think the figures are on the high side. That said, it's a very quick car, commented upon by everyone who drives it.
Maxes out at 1.5 bar boost (defi magic bar) dropping off to 1.4ish.

Bob says it'll need up to a remap. Sadly next time he's up here in a couple of weeks he's fully booked. So **** knows when it'll get fixed. Alternatives are go somewhere else...run lean til Bob is free...get my ECU unlocked/swapped and map open source styleee.
No comment on previous failure.

Was the Typhoon added on after any remaps?
If it was installed since day 1 then I'd be questioning why adequate MAF rescaling wasn't carried out, or if an archived MAF scale from a previous mapping was used, that its upper limits were double checked for your specific modifications.

When you first had it mapped, was it running fine afterwards and then it started running lean, or has it always been like that?
Was there a reason given (by anyone) why the engine let go first time round?

As far as I'm aware, the car has always leaned out at the top end. It's ALWAYS seemed to have fuelling issues. Been through two walbros and now onto a bosch 044 (non-motorsport).
This may be the root cause...
It hadn't been on the LM-1 until after the first rebuild (and running in). It was running lean then so we put it down to walbro for some reason and replaced it. Then it was mapped for second time. Then I lost another ringland on a forged piston. Piston was replaced. Remapped. On and on...

If it has had that map on it - there is no doubt that it would always start running lean at the top as soon as it went past the 295.11 gram/sec on the airflow scale. Forget the fuel pump as that would have no impact if the ecu doesnt know it should be adding more fuel.

So, are you saying that the previous fuel pumps have definatly been faulty? That would be pretty unlucky to go through two different once in such a short space of time.
Was it mapped after the first rebuild?

Hawkeye WRX running about 400ish.

APS TMIC.
Fuel side of things
Fuelab FPR
Some modified injectors (flow matched etc from Lateral Performance)
Bosch 6 bar fuel pump
It's always had problems running lean since day dot. Tried several pumps and finally settled on the bosch. It has to be ok...
Had STi pinks, still ran lean. Onto modified injectors which Mark had flow matched and checked.
Fuelab...not heard of them going wrong often but a possibility.
It's recently been mapped by Bob Rawle (3 or 4 weeks ago).
OK, the scene is set....took it out on the LM-1 tonight and top end it's leaning right out. I'm fed up to be honest, apart from possibly scrimping on the injectors everything has been spot on. I've tried to do the best I can! Looks like over 5k rpm it goes to like 12 AFR.
Thinking of buying a new FPR this week and trying it. It's certainly the cheapest possible fix. Failing that it's injectors and remap...
Any more suggestions about what could be causing it to run lean?
Many thanks in advance!

That aside, has there been any further development with this issue..?

0.81 lambda / 12.0 afr isn't what I'd call "leaning right out".
My cheeks start to twitch if I see 0.85 L / 12.5
Most rally cars I've had on the dyno run 12.2 without issue
What's actually the problem. Other than your tense ringpiece looking that the LM1

what is the boost at the higher rpm when it goes to 12:1?
As has been said if you are maxxing the maf sensor it needs a new maf housing / induction and a remap for it.
Unsure why given this evidence it has not been made a top priority to squeeze in sorting it.

Ah, I see what you mean now..
Strictly speaking 12.5 is classed as rich, but rich in a relative way. Under full boost/load 12.5 would be considered lean, if I see what you mean..
