we irish don't need reason. st paddy's day is used as one of those days when we don't get a lecture when we come home loaded like a freight train (there's a song in there somewhere)

How about 99 pictures of wimmins wearing green bikinis?

St Patrick loved a laydee in a green bikini I heard so only right to honour that.

Let's try some other sweeping generalisations, shall we? On St George's Day maybe the surrey nursery will ask all kids to come to school in white vans, with skinhead cuts, tattoos,a pit bull on each arm and a bucketfull of xenophobic ignorance to boot? No? Didn't think so...

I'm Irish and I consider your statement ill educated bollox of the highest order.
If you are too thick to realise that my comments were a light hearted exaggeration to make the point that a fair number of Irish, from both sides of the border, were happy to support the IRA in their killing and bombing campaign then so be it.

My earlier post - #6 - was deadly serious in that I resent Adams and McGuinness being feted in USA as some kind of hero freedom fighters when, in reality, they are KILLERS.

Imagine how USA Administration would feel if Brown invited Hamas for tea at No 10.

That's twice now I've heard some idiot go on about 'plastic paddies'. Yes I've been out today for a few drinks with the family for St. Patricks day. Sorry I wasn't born in Ireland, but both my parents are from there and I go over very regularly, (next time 2 weeks from now).

For a lot of people it is a good excuse to go out and join in, and why not? I really don't know why St Georges day isn't celebrated as it 'should' be, but if it was I'd be out on that day too celebrating.

I think that's more the post rationalisation of a fairly kneejerk comment, actually, rather than me misunderstanding your brilliantly crafted political satire. Wish I'd been in the Cambridge footlights with you then maybe I might have understood it... Hate lazy sweeping generalisations.

Whatever their past, and whatever their ulterior motives, Adams and McGuinness have been part of a cross sectarian movement that has eventually resulted in the best part of a decade of peace in the 6 counties (before the utterly senseless murders the other week).

At some point people have to move on or we're doomed to keep repeating previous mistakes - e.g what's your position on Mandela?

Irish and Northern Irish people (there, Bigsinky, managed not to say Scottish ) on the island (in a very large majority) have no interest in allowing all that ****e to happen again as has been shown by their superb shoulder to shoulder response to these loony radicals.

Did I make any comment about your post about Adams and McGuinness? No, because whatever I may have posted above, I also don't like them being lionised by misinformed people.
