Doesnt matter what car forum it is, there is always gonna be people who slag scoobys off.
In a way its a complement to scoobys that so many people think they are the benchmark to beat in terms of performance.

Hello Subaru Owners,
Just popped in from the Alfa side of things to say a couple of words, not sure how the thread over there got so out of hand but I think you've been well and truly Trolled.
Banter is all good and well but the insults that were flying over there aren't a normal thing and if you follow the thread there was a particular protagonist.
Like I said earlier in the thread I have a mate I work with (if he still is a mate after this) who has a Subaru Impreza WRX STi PPP Type UK, I've ribbed him about it being plug ugly at work but at the end of the day it's a personal decision and I wouldn't begrudge anyone that.
I think most of you will agree when I say that unfortunately Subaru's success and accessibility has been its downfall in the arena of public perception. It was me that said most Subaru's seem to have been bought to tune and chav up and in my experience it's true, the amount of cars I see with 6" wide exhausts booming past our work building so loud you can't hear the flat four at all is unreal.
Jetpowered's is about the only one I've seen that isn't chavved up in a long time, and I'm not counting the pink stickers as I know they aren't his fault![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Anyhow don;t really know where I'm going with this, sorta a olive branch thingy but think with some members we are way beyond that.
Cheers and drive safe

Maybe what I wrote could be construed wrongly, I don't think all Subaru's are chaved up, I know that there are going to be enthusiastic and passionate owners out there but it does seem to be a minority unfortunately that gets tarred with the same stick.

and alfa owners tend to love their cars, doing their hair, buying new lipstick, chasing after men, handbags, shopping and visiting the alfa dealership
anyway thanks for stopping by phil and have a safe journey home, heres some useful contacts you might need for the way home....

Hi,
just a quick word to clarify my involvement in said thread on alfaowner.com.
its quite fair to say things got out of hand, and although i dont believe i offended anyone, i do feel things ran rather out of control - its worth noting this was definitely not one sided.
as i mentioned on the alfa owner thread, one common thing about both Alfa Romeo and Subaru is their owners tend to be very passionate and dedicated, and both will stand and fight their corner furiously, combine the two sides and its inevitable sparks will fly.
yes, Alfa Romeo make some quick cars, and yes, subaru make fast cars too. There is of course some ground where the two cross over, to imply that being in any subaru of any means you will be able to out accelerate any alfa romeo is a pointless and childish as the "my ***** is bigger than your *****" rubbish the thread descended to. the majority of subarus are quicker than the majority of Alfas, but the same can be said that the majority of sports bikes are quicker then the majority of subarus - the whole comparison of two vehicles that aren't aimed at the same market is rather confusing.
so the net outcome? we all looked bad, and visitors to either forum would have got the wrong impression about all of us. Is that what we wanted? i know i didn't
Phil.

If anything, Subarus and Alfas have a common partner in Prodrive so surely that should be bringing the two closer?? The way I see it anyway...
At least these two have taken the time out to register to explain and apologise for what has happened on the Alfa forum.
We're all car enthusiasts, can't we just enjoy and share what we love about cars and driving?

You know, back in the early 90's i was tempted to buy a nice Alfa Romeo 33 1.7 (though the 1.5 may have been a cheaper choice for me) but didnt.
Its not because the alfa had a boxer engine (which it did), its not because it was an alfa (no it wasnt!) it was due to the lack of UK dealerships at that time, so i bought a renault instead (which was acutally a good car even though it was french)
One of the guys at work drives a 147, he has had no problems with it, zero, ziltch, none, he enjoys it, he has a BMW convertable for summer or the weekends, the alfa is his daily ride and its done him well (plus it cost him next to nothing with 50k on the clock
)
People like different cars for different reasons, Alfa's have a long tradition which hasnt really been kept up, but it does go back a long way, we enjoy Subaru's, we have a modern rallying tradition, so why cause arguments over it, a car lover is a car lover, ok you can take the pi55 but dont let it get out of hand, that just drops it to a low level of chavdom (ill trade mark that if its not been done already
)

as an owner of both marques, yup 1x subaru wrx and 1x alfa 147 I think I can offer a very personal view on this disagreement. The two cars could not be any further apart from each other. The engineering and performance of the Subaru is far superior to the Alfa. The interior and styling of the Alfa is beautifull and is better than the Subaru ( nobody ever bought a pretty scooby, and nobody ever bought an Alfa without that little doubt in their mind.
So you pays your money and takes your choice !
As for a 147 stuffing a scooby your are seriously mistaken
NO WAY !

Fairplay to the Alfa fellas for coming over here and explaining themselves. What i dont understand is why members from here had to sign up to the Alfa forum given it the big one about how their car is this that and the other.
I think that just reinforces people views on Subaru drivers...

Hi guys, I'm the culprit for the original post on the Alfaowner forum. I've just been reading through the thread with amazement and can't believe how out of hand things got.
The thread was, as far as I was concerned, dead and buried until a Scooby owner resurrected it and after a couple of posts of good humoured banter I thought that was the end of it.
If you look at my original post I only commented on how evenly matched the 2 cars were, more the fact that the GTA kept with the Subaru rather than the other way round. I didn't slag Subarus off and it was never my intention to cause such a storm so I'm disappointed at the comments accusing me of being a liar as I'm pretty sure the person who posted that doesn't know me well enough to make that statement.

I wouldnt worry about it mate some people manage to uphold the common belief that all Impreza owners are dicks rather too well. 99% don't bother with this inter-forum rubbish. Anyway it's all internet posturing and Alfas are pretty nice cars all in all
Trying to get a test drive in a Spider at the moment as I saw one at Canary Wharf and nearly wet myself

Well done for trying to bring about a quieter tone to the threads. I see the one on your Alfa site is closed. Must admit I was a bit shocked to see that some Alfa drivers thought so poorly of Imprezas, of course it was only going to go one way. Real car enthusiasts will appreciate different qualities in both - they are of course designed for completely different markets.
If you do decide to bring your Alfa to Scoob meet GD I'm sure it would be welcomed.
