I had a bailey one on an 02 UK STi - it sounded a bit like a squeeky toy, my current car came with a Turbosmart dual port - but i can never decide on if it should be hard or soft...........no particularly noisome at all ...

Yes MrRA, its simple - less compressor surge to the turbo means that it will spool back up quicker - its not rocket science
My hks item was fine for the months i had my car - not one problem.
Oh and, what if your running a MAP sensor instead please?
The people that bitch & moan are the people who buy an impreza in a mid life crises, know nothing about them and try fit a chav valve wrong, causing problems. - thats the only way id know a vta would make itself a problem. and i arnt been funny, but that counts for quite a few people on here that dont know what theyre doing.
RA Dunk - no DV over time the pressure will wreck the bearings in your turbo

have you measured the difference in spool time when running both OEM and VTA BOV's?
have you measured your AFR's when running both OEM and VTA BOV's?
the vanes are just as likely to get damaged as the bearings and there are planty of turbo's out there man enough to run without a BOV.

All those chaps that bark on about the noise a vta makes...And how chavy it is to have one. How many of you are running a different back box that makes a different noise, Cos that makes no difference to the car either so why do you all change your back Back boxes... ???.is it COS YOU LIKE THE NOISE BY ANY CHANCE...ergo you must be a chav if you,ve got anything bar a standard back box.If people choose to run vta it dont make them a chav they just like the noise. And so what if they do . Live and let live.. worry about your own life. Not everybody elses. Or aint you got one?cos somebody with a vta aint going to effect your life one little bit...... .rant over

No.
Because I wanted more power, and Prodrive told me that I HAD to change it for the PPP to work
Equally there is a fine balance here which you've brought to life.
Big stupid exhausts are also on the slippery slope too you know

As for compressor surge, don't you mean compressor stall?

Wrighty, a couple of questions for you;
have you measured the difference in spool time when running both OEM and VTA BOV's?
have you measured your AFR's when running both OEM and VTA BOV's?
the vanes are just as likely to get damaged as the bearings and there are planty of turbo's out there man enough to run without a BOV.

Granted a VTA DV can be mapped in so as to not cause problems. As for running a MAP sensor, yes agreed, but how many out there have gone to the trouble to ensure that the problems associated with a VTA DV are overcome? Not many I would guess as most people are running the standard setup with regards to a MAF sensor, and like the OP they just change the OE DV for a VTA item simply because they want the noise, nothing more.

if op wants noise, let him have it - its his car im sure youve done to your car whatever you wanted too

Why not go for the turbosmart dual port keep the recirculation as well as the sound best of both worlds
not that loud though. unless you are running at over 2 bar

I thought I'd posted in here but obviously not.
Not car has a Forge re-circ DV and also has a K&N Induction Kit. I can hear the excess air "chuffing" through the filter. Also when the car has first started I'm not quite sure but at a certain load I can get to make comp surge noises.

must be my misunderstanding...you said you have no issues and spool up had improved. In order for those statements to hold water you would have had to have a baseline from which to compare your cars performance before and after adding the VTA BOV.
