couldnt disagree more. Got 2 friends with mk5 golfs and they have been back countless times with rattles and bits of trim coming off. One has just bought a Focus as he couldnt take it any more. Its widely known that VW cut some corners with the mk5 golf, not saying that focus is miles better just saying the VW isnt the ultimate biult car any more.
And I've had a mk5 GTI from new, remapped at 2000miles, now done 40,000 enthusiastic miles in 2 years and not had a single issue with it. It doesn't rattle and nothing has fallen off.
I side with pretty much every review you'll read - they were the best all round hot hatch available and the mk6 is even better
John Banks doesn't like them mind

I'm having a dilema of ST or Golf mk 5 R32.
A 2007 R is going to set me back about 16.5k where an ST of the same year can be had for around 11.5k.I have had several VW's and never had any issues so i'm drawn to the R but the huge cash saving on the Ford is mighty tempting.
The wife favours the Golf so we shall see....
