Used to see A1 on various Rovers in the Warwick area years ago - think Rover owned it then. Also saw PEN 1S on a wedding car but I think it might have been a fake Also R1 ICH on a Roller.

Saw DAV1D on a battered white Merc in Cardiff about 12 months ago.
There are many Welsh words that appear on plates here which will mean nothing to non Welsh speakers, but here are some.
D10LCH which means Thankyou.
D10GEL which means Safe.
DRA1G which means Dragon.

Cool

Saw "RR 1" on a Roller in the West End a few years back.

Also saw "F328 GTS" on a Ferrari 328 GTS.

Apparently Paul Daniels used to have "MAG 1C".

Used to work near the BMW UK HQ in Bracknell and they seem to have bought every possible BMW *** plate going.

Saw an advert in the Sunday Times for a plate and it was going for £250k. You'd have to be extremely rich (not to mention sad) to pay that much.

Jerome.

Here's a famous one - I once saw Jimmy Tarbuck in a Roller with the registration "COM1C". Surely he can be done for false advertising?

Seen CDU 5T on a Porsche 928 (if memory serves), arranged as C DU5T, looked quite cool to an impressionable lad!

T4L GO

Not bad for £250

I have always thought car based plates a bit pointless as when you buy somthing else its ueless (WOW excepted 911 P must be worth ??? £30 000 ???)

Saw R55 OFF on a KA (with a stratigic white srew) (Pi55 off) why anyone would want that on there car is another issue

I've also seen Paul Daniels with his Roller and MAG 1C plate - gets about a bit doesn't he?!

Saw Prince Nas in a convertible Bentley with plate NAS 1.

Used to see 69 JOB on a big wing Cossie.

Seen A8 on an Audi funnily enough.

I even once saw a BMW M3 WITHOUT a M3 number plate!!!!!

Liked the story of the WOW 110T (WOW HOT)plate which was used for the press Viper in the UK. Apparently a Chrysler man saw the plate on an old Beetle and bought it for a puny sum. The Beetle owner was well chuffed until he saw where it went and was then unsuccessful in his attempts to extract more cash for it....

Locally, I have seen:

- GRA55 on a Range Rover owned by a Lawn Mower dealer.

- 50BER last seen on a Jag owned by a publican (although I haven't seen it for a number of years).

- 911S on a Porsche 911 owned, I think, by one of the directors of the local Porsche dealer, Glenvarigill. I'm fairly certain they also have THE911S and 928S, having seen these on the fourcourt in the past.

- H161RLS (spaced and dotted to read HI GIRLS) on a red Mazda MX-5 driven by a blonde bloke. Very sad.

- K1LTS on a Land Rover Defender owned by Geoffrey the kilt makers.

- VAT69 last seen on a Jag owned by Distillers (VAT69 is a whisky brand, for the uninitiated ).

- Lord Provost of Edinburgh has S0 (matching Glasgow's G0 mentioned in another post).

- 5MX on a Mazda MX-5 which sits outside the local Mazda dealer's showroom.

A few years ago my dad bought a book which listed most of the old style private plates and who owned them(before the DVLA came on the scene.

If anyone wants the ISBN number I'll get it.

Dad bough 1 SPE on a mini for £125.00 about 30 years ago and it has been one of his best investments - not bad for a Financial Planner!

Have also seen M1NCE on a local Butchers van - sign above the rear plate is spaced so the back door reads

"Patricks of Camelon for your sausages and M1NCE."

Took me 3 hours of constant phoning the morning of the V plate allocation in July to get that, a mere snip at £400
