IMO yes. Or at least it would put people off because there would be questions as to why its had a face lift (ie accident). I'm not keen on the pre- facelift look but to change it could devalue the car. At least if you do change it keep the OE parts and make any future buyers fully aware of why its been changed.
I'm seriously considering an FMIC but not keen on altering the look of the car.

Good idea, if i do facelift i will keep the OE parts so it can be change back to std if the new owner wishes and they can see ive only done it to improve its looks and not because its had a smash

yeah and make sure you mention it in your for sale ad
i hate poorly written forsale ads which ask you to ring for more detail.
prefer carefuly thought out and written adverts, sounds more genuine and that they tke pride in there car by decribing it
you can get the tone of voice in the advert

I'm a great believer in buying the car you want, rather than buying a car you don't want and changing it in an attempt to transform it into the car you really wanted in the first place - if that makes any sense?
From what I see, there is an industry which has been built up around some very dubious claims .... but, of course, non Engineers haven't a hope in hell of seeing through the blatant hype.
With a modified 500 BHP you simply arrive at the back of the next traffic queue a few seconds before I do, but I overtake you when your engine has blown up!
When it comes to selling the car that resembles very little of the original, you will struggle to get a call, struggle to get a decent price, struggle to convince a buyer that you have not thrashed it to within an inch of it's life! Again, the standard car seller beats you to the bank, with more money too.
And, to cap it all off, what do you think you look like while driving down the street? No the word they are shouting is not COOL!!!!
Keep it standard, keep your money, keep your dignity and your pride
That's my personal opinion on the subject.

SC008Y_MAD your car was amazing When we went out on that fast drive out you where very much down on power but your car had no issues keeping with us all, seemed like money well spent to me, (good luck with the car hunting) mod it

Define standard. If you mean exactly as they left the factory then they are few and far between. I would consider anything like the below to be standard as original parts are used from later or higher spec cars.
Both my UK MY97 have;
Subaru 16inch rims (allow bigger brakes)
Prodrive backboxes (last forever)
MY00 4pot fronts (better cooling)
MY00 vented rears (better cooling)
Backplates removed (free but irreversable on the rears, unless you can weld)
y pipes (well mine has anyway, still looking for the wife's)
New standard KYB shox all round, transformed the cars handling with front max allowed neg camber and toe in, but still rides comfy on the long runs.
Wifes saloon has jap import rear washwipe (why didn't the UK cars have them? it rains here too)
I would say they are standard as they are as people would expect of well cared for 10 year old Scoobs. Basically the cars have MY00 brakes on MY97 chassis. Some would argue that I should have bought MY00 cars and left the standard but I brought my cars 2 and 3 years ago for half the price (at the time) of MY00's.
The mods have been done sensibly and on a serious budget, to enable me to keep up with the modern shopping trolleys that are surprisingly nippy nowadays. Spent very little but gained much using the laws of deminishing returns (ie there are better brakes than the 4 pots, costing 4 times the money but do not give 4 times the stopping power, something the top gear team demonstrated so ably). Don't expect any increase in value or desirabilty tho, just driveability.
Have kept all the parts to return to original condition, but why anyone would want the original brakes back is beyond me.

Im looking for a subtle black splitter for mine. This can be taken off prior to sale if I wanted
An older Impreza in good condition will be more desirable that a newer one is poor condition...IMO

I searched high and low to find a 'standardish' scoob. Eventually bought a '99 Classic PPP. Only mods are a replacement panel filter and a full H&S. Oh and braided hoses too with performance front pads fitted. It still even has all the tango indicators fitted. :-) Going to stay this way too, just needs a few parking 'dinks' taking out.

Being an RA id leave it alone or do what ive done and just add subtle mods that can be reversed (clear indicators, clear side repeaters, different wheels)

Think there is nothing wrong with some things standard
Bodywise yes because that was the reason I bought the car was because I like the look of them. Personally I like bodykits and all that but I only want to enhance the look a little because I like the look of them already
In other ways I'm not so sure because especially on the older models I find the suspension was not exactly brilliant and the brakes on my WRX are well................ shocking and never been good
Engine wise fine. Nothing wrong with the engine I love the sound
but then it isn't goin to prove anythin to the speed junkies on here

Thats why we all buy these kinds of cars aint it cause we like to drive em, not sit in traffic.
I have a WR1 that has been modded quite a bit, even the guys on the wr1 web site question if its a wr1 any more.
And every time i take it out it puts a bigger smile on my face than it did stock, worth every penny.
You are never going to get your money back that aint why we do it if we wanted to make money we would keep it in the bank to earn interest "mega exciting"
