But the Powerstation "package" is a built engine, as I'm running a "std" STI, I fitted an FMIC to give it a chance of lasting. At 2 bar of boost the thing flies, but would melt after a few minutes on track.
imho

P.S. Yes Andy.F did stay with a top mount, but one the size of my house !

Dunx, I presume that your 2 bar is yielding considerably more than 400 hp and an FMIC is totally understandable. However 2 bar to reach 400 hp spells a big problem somewhere and an FMIC is just papering over the cracks.
The thread is about needing an FMIC on a 400 hp newage car.
The std STi TMIC will be reducing heat to about ambient + 15 deg C on sustained boost IRO 1.5 bar and just above ambient off boost. Heat soak will only be a factor if not moving.

Gussy my humble Apology ! Didn't realise that !
Butty, No, it did reach 2 bar before mapping and it was astonishing, now ecu is back in charge again.... 1.5 bar max, till the next step i.e. forged bottom end and a new ecu ! To get back to the level it (briefly !) managed.
It never ends.
dunx
P.S. I still think the o.p. doesn't need an FMIC, mine did as I could feel mine wilting as the abuse set in

Hi Butty,
I have a newage car (not running the 400+ horses range like some of you lucky peeps here) i'm in the 350bhp bracket
but i don't think i 'bought the hype' as you stated. After a FMIC installation on my car i felt a major difference & i personally liked the the feel of the more torquey drive & noticed my temp levels drop via the defi gauges even though i had water spray on my TMIC i don't need to hit that button half as much when on the front. As for reliability i got it wrong as someone was saying it will be in the garage more so i was thinking they meant the relaliaiblty terms about added mods effecting this & end up in the garage more for repairs
not going into the garage to have more money thrown at it for more after market parts/add-ons
at the end of the day these are Subaru's.. they hardly go wrong & last you donkeys of years if you look after it. The big bhp packages made from all the Co's mentioned in this thread are top noch & v realibly
as most of the 400+bhp crew are still going on strong
& i have read threads where they are so good at the end they don't go wrong the owners just get fed up of it & either sell it or strip it for parts
I don't think the OP needs a FMIC as he seems like he only uses it for track days & don't rag the nuts off it. I'm just saying each time i put them on mine i liked the outcome & don't think its a waste of money, specially if you use the car daily or tend to be in traffic for long periods then heat soak defo is a problem.. i'm driving abroad this year to Cyprus (summer
time) so gonna try to keep it as cool as poss - also added bonus they look the dog's danglies
unless you like to have the more descrete look then stick with the TMIC or go FMIC change the bonnet for a non-scoop (sleeper look) or turn the scoop the other way around for better eirodynamicy (spelling sorry) well there loads of things to do etc.. eitherway you buy a car with a high bhp for big $$££$$ or you buy a standard car & spend big ££$$££ again to get the high bhp.. all nice pub chat if you ask me
