learn to drive it and to keep your speed up, and you'll have plenty of fun... for a fraction of the cost

Slapped one on my 9000 2.3 Carlsson and this is what it did..

Fuelling was lean above 4500rpm but ecu was standard, ran it like this for many thousands of miles and it humiliated scores of exotic cars on the road and track, just learnt to short shift at 4500rpm....nice street sleeper.

I am thinking I may just have to get a 9000, I prefer older Saabs and the engine in my old one was only the LPT but it flew, no way was it only the quoted 150 bhp, it felt as quick as my new shape Aero when it was standard, plus I am spending way too much time on the Retro Rides forum.

Just need Skinters to get of his I suppose.

Ha - mine is up on axle stands at this moment as it's getting bigger brakes... Nice to stop from time to time. Not changing wheels though as that would ruin the stealthy effect
Just bought a 9-3 LPT and made sure I got the older red-top engine for general toughness.

Skinters, I agree, keep it lookign standard, in fact if I buy an Aero model I will badge it as 2.0i or something with a towbar and stickers from various attractions, proper grandad family wagon but with the seemingly obligatory 400 bhp.

I reckon my 9-3 is worth between 5 and 6, how much to build a 400 bhp plus 9000, I am thinking a grand (tops) for a decent base.

I would want a manual.

Is the red top engine more robust, did they downgrade it when they went to T7 ?

This is a topical debate...

T7 black top is much harder to tune for a start (software wise).

Engine:
Pistons are good for 300bhp, Red tops good for 500.

The later black top engine is a bit free-er spinning and lightened. It also has a bit free-er flowing head but has mainly succumbed to emmissions, fuel economy and some bean counting. You might have noted the general 9-5 (later type) engine carnage due to sludging - this was another mess up.

Tuning the 9k for just power alone?
Fuel pump, injectors, GT3071r, 50mm intercooler, custom downpipe, braided lines, actuator, 3bar map sensor plus a pile of sundires (these add up to a lot!) and a remap. I'd budget at least 1500 hardware for that.
Needs a 450GBP sachs uprated clutch to hold it together too. That's 2k plus.
