From BBC NEWS | World | Americas | 'Too late' to contain swine flu
" ... A deadly swine flu virus first detected in Mexico can no longer be contained, a World Health Organization (WHO) official has said. WHO Assistant Director General Keiji Fukuda said countries should now focus on mitigating the effects of the virus. The WHO has raised its alert level from three to four, two steps short of declaring a full pandemic ... "
But later in the article " ... In almost all swine flu cases outside Mexico, people have been only mildly ill and have made a full recovery ..."
Sounds just like a normal flu outbreak to me then. I'm sure all the media hype wouldn't have been engineered to take peoples attention off of the economic crisis at all. No way ......

Just come back from Tesco and it's absolute chaos! People are panic buying Lemsip and face masks, and all sausages are half price!
Has to be said everyone loves a good scare-story every so often!

its in derby and wiltshire now,
its been blown out of proportion by the press as usual. all the deaths are in mexico and been sugested they were only due to not seeking medical attention. Also most of those who are infected recover without the need of medical attention (most are minor cases). and finnaly, the virus has shown no resistance to antibiotics, aka shot in the arm or few pills and your fine.
sounds like normal flu to me :s

I am personally looking forward to a 28 days later type scenario without all the troublesome Zombies, or perhaps an I am Legend thing with me as Will Smith and a small black Poodle/Yorkie/Whatever cross called Rambo at my side

Quite funny: Pig plague 2.0: Can't spell 'pandemic' without 'panic' ? The Register
J4CKO: If we get a Yorkshire Terrier (I'm trying for a Cocker Spaniel, but am getting overuled) it will be called 'Fang' apparently as my children want me to shout "Fang, come here Fang.." and a little yappie thing appear.

You don't use antibiotics for a virus..... but you knew that?!
Dave
PS: well, doctors do use them *in case* you get some infection from having a weakened immune system from fighting the viurs ....

The UK doesn't have much to fear from a mortality perspective, but it'll cripple the country if many people are ill at the same time.

Not saying I'm even slightly worried about this swine flu, but I have noticed on the 'have your say' sort of forums on websites, there are quite a few people in Mexico suggesting it's worse than the government are making out.
Also if you think people are returning home to countries all over the world, having been to different areas of Mexico, then they're showing signs of the flu, so there must be a hell of a lot of infected people out there in Mexico - it's not like all the tourists have been to one small area with lots of infected people or anything.
And it doesn't half seem infectious! Already a dozen people who've just been in contact with the Scotish couple who've come back with it, have got the flu (not confirmed swine flu yet however I dont think)!
This time next week we'll all be back to worrying about the economy going under again tho I expect
