Who does NO social networking on Web?
#32
I'm a member of Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and FriendsReunited. Probably some others I've forgotten about. I've caught up with a few old friends etc, so worth it for that I suppose.
The only one I really use these days is Facebook, and that's only for Scrabble anyway. The novelty of racing apps, throwing sheep and poking wore off quite a while ago.
As for Twitter, I've signed up, but can't really see the point.

I use Facebook to keep in contact with friends who are spread all over the world (calling friends in Australia ain't for me). Not for the idiotic apps or telling everyone I've just had a cheese sandwich. Plus, I only have real friends on there rather than every Tom, Dick or Harry I meet on the street.
For recluses? Nice try
My data is not on the net for all to see on Facebook, only my friends can see my info and none of what is on there is of any use to fraudsters etc. no DOB, bank account numbers or sort codes!
I love how there are so many jumping on the 'Facebook is ****' bandwagon when we all sit on here spouting our self proclaimed pearls of wisdom for hours and there are more than a few on SN who are just as fake or are stuck in a fantasy world

Hmmm - there I was thinking Facebook was just for keeping in touch with real people, maybe sharing the odd pic and similar, not making up some fake persona (ahem - like many do on here) and pretending you are someone entirely different.
Maybe that's why some of you are so anti - you have no lives, no real friends and nothing to share. Oh well.

But if you know them in real life why make friends with them in Facebook? Surely you either meet up with them or you can phone them or you can email them so what is the point of using Facebook?

F1 Fan - well unless everyone you have ever met still lives in the same town/city then it can be tricky to keep in touch. From Facebook I know when mates in Canada are coming over, I can arrange last minute surfs with mates, etc.
I think the golden rule is NEVER to mention anything work related and use it to keep in touch. Those that get hooked on it clearly need to get a life but most don't use it very often.
And being a free country, there is always the option of ignoring it.

...that was kind of my point
I'm with you, it's nice to keep in touch with people and see what they've been up to. I've not got many freinds, on facebook or in real life. I was sceptical at first, but I really enjoy it now.

Matteeboy, just so as you know I am not picking on you, I am honestly just interested. I have a friend in Aus I keep in touch with all the time and have had friends in the US (although they live in the UK now) and none of us have ever felt the need to use Facebook or the likes. Skype for chatting and email for everything else.

I can honestly say i've never had a problem with anything he's posted, its just annoying when i've seen threads where he has tried to help, given a bit of info and he gets shot down for it. Tis not nice, we're supposed to be a community afterall.

One of the reasons that I was prompted to start this thread was that the old auntie mentioned in Post #1 had actually seen photos and details of MY children on another close family member's Facebook page. Nobody asked us for permission to put these photos/details up and, not being a member of Facebook (or any other social networking site), we had no idea they were there.
That seems wrong to me. My wife and I have decided that we didn't want to do this and then we find out that someone else has come along and done it anyway!
