Sounds fine to me if he comes to your house. Pretty standard cash sale if both sides are happy. I guess retaining the private plate complicates it a bit, so unless he had trade plates, he would need to come back again after you've sorted it. (I might be completely wrong on this though, as I have never had to do it).

As a buyer, I like to view, test drive, negotiate, pay the cash, complete V5 and drive it home there and then (with insurance of course). Having to come back again another day would put me off, especially if it's a long way from home: why should I have to if I have the cash with me?

Thanks for your input chaps I'm just waiting to hear back on a couple of things.
It's amazing though - this a WHOLE world that I know nothing about (one of many worlds I hasten to add!!LOL!!)

Will see what I can sort out later - will keep you posted.
Would love to hear your sale triumphs or catastrophes!!!

Just for my own benefit I always insist on going to the seller's house if I buy privately, if nothing else other than to assure myself that this isn't some trader trying to offload a shed. It's also easy to confirm the address on the V5 then too. Anything else seems too trusting for me this day and age
Jesus, dont worry so much, petrol stations have more cctv than most banks, and my rule of thumb is always take at least 2 mates with you, so if something kicks off, you have a fair chance of walking away with your car and your pride still intact.

From a buyers point of view, i wouldnt wait 5 days to see a car, i would suspect the owner of bodging jobs up to get the car to work properly!
If i want to buy a car, and i dont travel far, i go to the town the car is advertised in, then ring the owner and tell tehm im close by and want to see the car now, so he has no bodging time or time to clean leaking rocker covers etc etc!

Would have got the Plate sorted before putting it up for sale though chap.

Best thing to do is offer to pay for the new plates he's going to need to get and fit as you are messign any buyer around a bit there. Best to have it ready to go not give them a reason to come back a week later should they rag it to death in the meantime.

5t.

i only had two weird experiences,

first one,
sold it at the terminal at man airport, someone flew in from ireland to buy it.

i was expecting it to be on the news a few days later.

apparently he flew over with a pal to by a classic and needed some wheels,

and the second one
i bought a car just by seeing it on the drive, put fifty quid thru letterbox and said if it sounds as goods as it looks im having it, and it did as well.

First one was your Pink Sierra I seem to remember, the second one a misunderstanding following your one and only visit to Canal Street.....

sold my classic my99 over the phone, didnt even see the car, no test drive, no fuss etc and all I had to do was drop it at a local scooby garage and collect the cash, guy then had a full service and belts done and by all accounts its done him proud ever since.
Ive done some crazy buying too, bought cars off the web, off the trader by phone, bought non runners to fix and then scrap etc
in fact dont sell me your car or buy mine!
