An RS with winter tyres would probably be ok. I'm tempted to get some winter tyres for the subaru this year

Off to test drive a white RS MP350 tonight at fairly local dealer as I’m intrigued. I test drove an ST back to back with a CTR and (before deciding on the latter as my current car) as the only thing I liked about the ST was the sound of the engine. It felt lardy, wallowy and numb plus two dealers I tried had no clue about the car other than it was a focus with a big engine. Biggest issue I have with the CTR is the FWD which is what put me off the RS initially. I know the CTR doesn’t have a LSD or the fabled revo-knuckle but it has a lot less power & torque and still struggles on anything other than perfect roads.

Finding a decent MY11 hatch in the right colour is proving difficult. Drove a black one up in Coventry last weekend but that colour doesn’t do anything for me – was impressed that Carstins Subaru just let me take it out on my own. But whoever chose the current colour line up needs shooting. Plasma blue sucks compared to WRB and Pearl white is nowhere near as nice as Satin white.

Rob, I'm not going to get into a debate about which car is best in the snow as we know the AWD of the Subaru would win

However, what I'm trying to say is those that can get the car off the drive or just keep spinning obviously can't drive in the snow.

I thought it'd be a nightmare to be honest and bought some winter tyres the first winter I had mine and it was actually very very good in quite deep snow.

I still put the winter wheels/tyres on from around Dec - Feb but have driven one without these on, this too was fine.

Still miss my Hawkeye for grip though, was far superior to both the RS and 330S IMHO.

Guy

a quick one, i bought a second STI front grill off ebay at the weekend, it arrived yesterday but the two fixing points on one side that attach it to the bumper have been snapped off.

would this drastically effect it if it was fitted. Would it be really loose or would it be OK as it would be fixed in place with the two screws on the other side.

The seller has said he would take it back or offer a part refund which makes it a cheap option but if the fit will be poor I would rather send it back

thanks

I think you may be ok as its wedged it quite tight, if you take the bumper off you could always pop a pilot hole through the grill and bumper and pop a small self tapper through the 2 to secure, no one will see it and will be hidded by the grill frame.

Just picked my new car yesterday, garage said I could use normal unleaded but I thought you had to use super unleaded in scoobies! Car is 2010 wrx with a PPP.

So what fuel should I be using?

I am not sure on the WRX as obviously more mildly tuned even with the PPP than an STi. What does it say on the fuel flap?

Personally for me for the price difference of 4p per litre on Tesco 99 over standard unleaded I would play it safe.

Cheers for the info, the garage half filled the car for me, which im sure was normal unleaded and a have just filled it up to full using v-power! Will the car be ok or will I need to get the ecu reset because it's been run on 95 unleaded?

Cheers

If you topped up the tank with V Power, you should be ok!
Just stay away from the red line until you've run enough to re-fill with V Power or Tesco 99.

Does anyone know how much gearbox oil is required when doing a change?

And is it as easy to do as the rear diff oil?

Did the rear diff oil a few weeks ago, it took a tiny bit short of 1L

Around 4 - 4.5 litres?

Classics were...

Easy to do, funnel in gearbox dip stick hole... allow the air to escape or you glug over!

Ha! I haven't checked the gearbox oil on the 330S in 3 years ..... there may not be in which case I guess it's like the rear diff?

Rob ..... ;-)

Just seen Don's reply above!! At least I was near with 4l oil ...

Tyres - 34 front, 32 PSI works well on 18's ( std 330S 18x8 wheels )

4.1 ltrs ish in the gearbox, no dipstick anymore theres a level bung 10mm hex halfway up on the passenger side of the box, take it out and it should just a say trickle out.
