Guys out of curiosity has anyone contemplated fitting a newage 2.0 sti block to the hatch rather than forging the 2.5, would this be cost effective or not

Any view opinions welcome

No, the head chamber capacity is to large for a 92mm bore, the only viable bottom end is a EJ22 97mm bore, built quite a few for Hatch owners, who want more power than is safely available from the 2.5 block, even with pinning / inserts on the fireface.

Yep me.

Walbro GS342, Had to cut specific parts out of the filter housing and double stack the o-rings to ensure a pressure tight seal

Cheers Rob, stupid question maybe but if that's the case how does a after market custom map squeeze more power out of it considering its already had the boost turned up. If it's hit 335bhp as is how can it get to 360-380bhp / 400lb sorry for sounding dumb but I don't get the mapping thing one bit

alter the boost profile to 1.5 bar & adjust the wastegate duty cycle & alters the fueling and ignition timing and fine tune to a specific AFR.

theres more to it than that but you get the idea, I'm no expert with the ecu stratagy for remapping

Not really, I'll find a guide for you. it's time consuming to do it and you need to use a touch of force to clip it all back together

I believe Roger Clark now do a hatch suitable uprated fuel pump.
So I expect that may be a direct ( easy ) fit?

On a totally different note here. Im a bit of a clean car freak but the hatchback I have seems to suck stupid amounts of crap up off the road, the lower spoiler under the window is stinking dirty after even the shortest trip. Will mudflaps cure this or is it inherent of the design? It seems all modern hatches suck dirt onto their rears...I first noticed it with the Focus rally cars...something to do with wind tunnel designing maybe?

Rally Armour flaps always kept mine pretty clean and that was with +35 offset wheels throwing up grime from the road, it was silver though so less noticeable.

anyone have a diagram to the standard exhaust system fitted to the 330s?

i have a h&s bb on mine but bought a std sti back box to fit and it does not match up with what i have underneath (managed to get it up on ramp and get under it) so think i may have a cat back h&s system as i cant see and centre cat or resonator pipe

any help would be appreciated

Stevie, pipe on the right is the standard STI and 330s centre pipe that you are probably missing, iirc the h&s backboxes on the hatch do not fit with this and require the h&s centre pipe.

And here is the standard second cat with a decat pipe.

Cheers pal, looks like I'm up poop street then, might explain the poor rr graph to as surely a cat back system should be mapped in and I'm still on the stock map. And this was from a main dealer who told me it was a just a back box.

From the picture I imagine that the exhaust is as if it was fitted from the front room back son the centre cat is nearer that engine and where it lifts up is where it connects to the back box

Any one have any knowledge of what their cat back systems produce on decibels

Yep if you've got these

then you need this as it's shorter

08 Centre Pipe in 2.5" to fit with our Y Design Backbox. Needed for twin rally style exhaust or quad outlet. You need this pipe as we have had to shorten the standard length pipe to be able to get one pipe either side. To fit models 2008 onwards.

Thanks for clearing it up Don, appreciate it

Looks like I need the std centre section to. Still a little bit concerned that the main dealer has informed me wrong and also has aloud it to be fitted and not had the car mapped for it. Could that be a reason for the results I aw on the rolling road graph

A cat back exhaust should really be ok on the standard map as the back pressure remains the same, or so I was recently informed by a very reliable source who I trust.

If though as you say you cannot see the second cat and a cat replacement pipe has been fitted in addition to the h&s centre pipe then yes a remap would be required, the second cat sits at the front on the car between the engine and gear stick iirc.

However on a hatch I'd be inclined to have it mapped whatever has been fitted just in case!

If your wanting to go back to standard I'd imagine that quite a few on here have a centre pipe lying around after going catback, I know I did until a few weeks ago.

Standard exhaust on the left.

Cheers mate, I think the 330 loses the 2nd cat as part of the power hike. I have a straight through centre so it must be a resonator in the middle bit not a cat (my mistake)

Anyone got an idea in what their cat back systems produce on decibel meters?

+1

tell them it creates problems with getting insurance .. which it can. As you'll have only a very small hand full of companies who'll deal with it

Once you mod it you'll be looking at specialist insurers anyway lol

I think push them on price.

Stikes just sold his 330s with extra's for not that much more money and that was a Jan 2009 car.

BTW.. KevM has a set of STi carpet car mats forsale along witha set of 330s Alloys (brand new) if you'r interested.
