Blimpers anyone?
Blimpers.......................oh yes, SWEET on a Friday, some great nights. Nothing has ever replaced this.

Moonraker at Clavertons along with the best juke box ever.

God, Moonraker! Wasn't it about 8%? They used to do a promotion, if you drank 4 pints in a night you got a free shirt, I think the police made them stop because so many people were passing out on the street.

LOL, thought it was nearer 10% but memory is a bit hazy . Never seen the drink 4 offer, but have certainly downed a few in one. Place is now a poncey wine bar type thing, don't know how long you've been away. Used to be able to have a really good, varied night in Chester, places are all too similar now.

I moved away about 15 years ago, been back sporadically since. As I left they were just opening the Brannigans place in/near the old cinema, which seemed pretty crap and generic. I used to work in the Lock Stock and Barrel for a while as well, which was on the canal if you remember it. Not the best pub in the world!

You're right, there was some good variety - favourites were Telfords, Alexanders, Boat House, Cross Keys, Waterstones, The Axe, etc. etc. Oh yeah and that was me sticking Losing My Religion on repeat in Clavertons, sorry about that!

For real tacky late night entertainment, how about High Society or Copacabana

Well im back

We went out at 9pm and everybody was in suits and flowery dresses and they were ar$eholed, it was so funny

Went in one pub and it was £4.50 for a pint and half. Then after walking around for a bit we found Cruise and went in there.

I have to say i was impressed, the staff where quick to spot empty glasses, someone had spilt a drink and before you could blink someone was there mopping it up. The toilets had plenty of toilet roll and where clean and the different rooms was great for a variety of music
I found people to be pleasant and kept themselves to themselves, any sign of trouble and the bouncers where straight on to it. There was a great police presence in the streets aswell.

Saturday we headed in to Liverpool and ended up in the Cavern Club, bloody fantastic We will definitely be going back to Liverpool, they all seemed to be on hen parties though

Glad you enjoyed it, s'pose anywhere new is always a bit better than when you're going there all the time. £4.50 for 1.5 pints isn't bad IMO. Glad you went to Liverpool also - L'pool vs Chester = no contest. There are some fantastic clubs there.

I've been here for 15 yrs this summer! Copacabanas closed maybe a year after, had a few good nights there but twas the company rather than the place I guess. Brannigans Ive always loathed (tho that hasn't stopped me visiting)....................but hasn't been too bad the last few times, bit less cheesy maybe. High society I think became Rosies, a staple for many years. Think Chester is now lacking an identity for its nightlife, very, very generic. I know the axe, but just cannot think where it is, maybe now the bear and billet (bottom of lwr bridge st, near river) - no it's right opposite there Don't really think the pubs on river take full advantage, Boat house never gets busy now, always smells of cheap chip fat too.

Is Wrexham good these days then? I don't live there anymore, but I did for the first 19 years of my life. And town was pretty crap. Well when they got rid of Club XS and opened Liquid instead. Also Scotts was good for a change.

Burnt down before I was old enough to go drinking. Apparently The Stone Roses once played there! Ended up like its nickname - Cinders
