I still think that "Erik B and Rakim", "Big Daddy Kane" & "Rob Base" still set a very high standard in the hip hop world - here is a taster:
These three tunes still drop on the club floors .....
Erik B & Rakim:
YouTube - Paid in full - Eric B. & Rakim
The Daddy!:
YouTube - Set It Off - Big Daddy Kane
Rob Base:
YouTube - MOViE MiX : iT TAKES TWO / ROB BASE

Personally rate The Daddy as one of all time best for flow, wit and cross section of appeal. "Young, gifted and Black" and "aint no half steppin" still have it.
Re Eric B, "Follow the leader" and "Microphone Fiend" remain two of my all time favourites.
In the current ipod playlist
Gang Starr
JVC Force
King B
Nas
Boogie Down Productions
Agree re most recent hip-hop, since The Game, nobody has really sparked my interest, and much prefer older stuff.
Few grey hairs, and usually wearing a suit, but it does not stop me, and it will never will.

just cant make music like back in the day, even all the comedies if you look at only fools and horses, game on, buttom one of my favourites fresh prince and the cosby show. now you got all these new things that are good but not as good as the old days thank god for chris rock
sorry bit of topic there.
jp i went out raving the other day music in the clubs are diffrent to before everyone is into grime and funky. dont get me wrong i dont mind a bit of funky but nothing beats some r Kelly or some donnel jones.
