On a lighter note - if you will forgive me that, a local chap has put a scarecrow up in his garden (but you could have a word with the farmer opposite) and put a hi viz jacket on it. He also make a mock speed gun from a plastic bottle (recycling?) and apparently it has had a huge impact on reducing speeding where he lives.
As it's a scarecrow, I don't believe it could be illegal...................?

Only just seen this Swiss,was under the car all yesterday.
I am desperately sorry about the hit and run, we have a road on one side of the house just like yours and even though it is single track we get couriers doing anything up to 50 and we are terrified for our own cat.
Years ago we had another cat who was run over like yours. He was hit in the head and his hip was broken. Someone else found him by the side of the road and took him to the vet. He had fluid on the brain from the accident.
He was cared for very well by that vet and he made a full recovery. He went on to live for another 20 years until he died naturally at 22 years old. The hip usually repairs itself.
I very much hope that your cat will make a similar recovery.

That is lovely news to hear that yur cat made a full recovery, we can only hope and wish for the best with Charlie
Well we had the phonecall from the vet about an hour ago and the news is slightly better. The main thing Charlie is still with us and they are going to put him on a drip later on today as his jaw is broken and he cant take any liquids.
if he responds to that they will try and xray his head and then go from there. He is not out of the woods by any stretch of the imagination and we are still prepared for the worst, but we are hoping so and so can only wait. At least the sun is shining and so the garden beckons.
Bought our little ones a 8ft trampoline yesterday which I was building at the time of the accident, so at least they can bounce on that all day long whilst we toil away murdering plants

Hope all is ok as well. We have a 'rescue' cat - got him 8 years ago and he was a sod at first 
In 2005 we moved to Spain and left our cat with my wife's sister for a week whilst we drove down to Andalucia and 'Leroy' was to be flown out a week later. During that week, the cat escaped and was knocked down on a main road nearby. We got to hear about all this 3000 miles away when we eventually tracked down where the cat was (he was missing for 3 days first). Turns out either the person that hit him, or someone else, did the right thing and drove him to the local vets but didn't leave their details. Anyway, he was also at the stage your's is now, and it was heartbreaking to hear that his bladder had packed up etc. They did a massive op on the little thing (luckily our insurance hadn't yet expired) but he survived and now you would never know he'd been hurt, save for a small scar on his belly, and the fact he's more wary of the sound of cars (and especially bikes). He's also not such a sod anymore - I wonder if he knew the tears that were shed and the money that had been spent!
Like you, we live just off a 40MPH road but it comes down from a National Speed Limit a few yards further on and the inconsiderate fooking idiots come flying through at 60mph+, so we are constantly now living on tenterhooks (now back in the UK).
Good luck, but remember - cats are tougher than we are in many ways (I keep telling my wife this) and you'll be surprised at their power of recovery.

My aunty's rescue cat (originally named Taffy, before being renamed Oliver when they moved to Wales 
). Was hit by a car (country lane 60mph NSL - to be expected with the house so close to the road). He had a broken jaw, legs skull fractures and brain damage. He had an operation to pin all the broken bones, and pulled through to make a good recovery only losing the sight in his one eye.
Was quite a funny cat, he never quite got used to his lack of depth perception after that; would try to jump between the two arm chairs and completely misjudge it. You'd think he'd learn? Nope 10 years later he was still doing it.
Lived for about 15 years though. Daft, saft, and always after your food.

All her cats (four at one point) are now trained to be indoor cats; They don't wonder outside the confines of the back garden or the house

That's good to hear mate - fingers crossed for him. Cats can be surprisingly robust; even though he looks cute he's still got millions of years of "survival of the fittest" behind him to back him up.

We love cats in this house and we know exactly how u feel,we lost our lovely cat sherbert a few weeks ago and it is heartbraking to know that people can just hit them with no remorce,they are wonderfull animals

Got the same problem where i live residential one side then a park opposite so alot of the cats from nearby cross the road often to get into the park,we sometimes have cars and Bikes flooring it along the straight section of road.Had two cats killed and my cousin cat got killed about 3 months ago,Our last cat that got ran over was left lying in the gutter only found out because i wrote the street name and house number on it's collar so someone came knocking to tell us.But as said cats are pritty resilient animals our present cat is 19 yrs now and still going strong.

Charlie update !!
We had a call from the vets this morning. Neither of us wanted to go to work until we had spoken to them.
The news is much better, though they have advised us that there is still a chance that he may have complications but at least he is still with us and responding well to the drip and medication.
He actually came to the cage door this morning for a cuddle
So they informed us that he has a break to his jaw at the front and a slab fracture to the upper left hand side which is the main concern. he will have to lose his teeth in that area that obviously makes it hard to eat in the future and it is very close to his eye and nose but with his age there may be a good chance he will heal. The rest of the jaw will be wired and should heal so liquid food for that chappie
If the surgery goes okay then he might * crossed fingers here* be back home in a few days.
I know it is after the event, but we never got around to insuring him and now will be paying the consequences, but sod it, I will sell the car or a kidney just to get him home. Failing that I might have to pimp out Zoe to cover the costs

Thanks once again for all your messages of goodwill, it seems a lot of friends, family and complete strangers have all been willing the little man to get better and it seems to be working so thank you

That's good to hear mate, sounds like he was lucky. Keeping fingers crossed for him.
The loss of a few teeth shouldn't bother him at all, cat food doesn't take much cutting or chewing, and if the other side is OK then he can still crunch biscuits and stuff too.
