I am really, really happy that you've got the best from a crappy situation. Cats are brilliant and I'm please to see he has an STI seat to himself

Hey Chris. Only just read this now mate, I am so sorry to hear you lost your last cat and that poor Charlie was hit.

I completely know how you feel, our house is on a main road which is a 30 limit but is part of the TT course so you get loads of idiots treating it as a race track although we have plenty places on the island where you can legally go as fast as you like, and like your house, on the opposite side of the road are some fields.

Our cat Bailey was hit and left. Another driver saw her staggering along the pavement just after being hit, stopped and brought her to the house. I rushed her to the vets and she had a smashed jaw just like wee Charlie. When the vet xrayed she basically said "what the hell am I supossed to do with this?" because Bailey's jaw was in so many pieces. Thankfully the vet managed to put her jaw back together with stuff she likened to fishing line rather than wire. Bailey was in the vets for 4 weeks and only got home once she could eat solid food again. She is now back to full health and become a spoilt little madam in the process, although I think she has learned her lesson, with regards to the road, she only goes out as far as the back garden now and spends most of her time in the house.

Unfortunately 3 months after Bailey was hit we lost her brother Tiggs in another 'hit and run'. The wife and I were our for my father in-laws birthday meal that night but one of our friends found him lying in the middle of the road and wrapped him up and put him inside the porch. He now rests in the back garden with a little plaque on the wall to remember him by.

I am so pleased to hear little Charlie is making a full recovery mate.

This is Tiggs (tabby) and Bailey (white)

Freddie may be a big girls blouse about going out in case of monsters or rain, but he got a big rat once and it never knew what hit it, We haven't seen another rat since.

Cute cats mate. Tiggs is almost the same in colour to Charlie, sorry to hear about what happened. Bloody silly how they get to you, considering their 'roaming' nature and how they dont seem to care as opposed to dogs, but they sure win you over in time

Well I am sure that Freddie is the real 'man of the house '

Little update for you guys.
Since we brought Charlie back on Thursday we were very happy indeed to have him home but on Friday we took him back to the vets as he simply was breathing so bad and not drinking or eating via the syringe that we were worried. The vet checked him over and said he was fine and that we needed to persevere.

So once assured, we have been forcing water and some food down him and over the last 48 hours he has made a rapid recovery and is doing far better. His jaw is starting to heal nicely and he is quite alert. He is desperate to go outside and chase all the birds but for the time being he is banned from the garden and so he just sits at the back door looking grumpy

He at last has his meow back

Good news Swiss, getting his meow back is a sure sign he is getting over it.

Good to hear he is on the mend.

I noticed our cat (another Tiggs - he was Fifi until his first visit to the vets ) hasn't eaten since Wednesday and has spent all that time on my daughters bed. This morning I decided to have a good look at him and the left side of his face is swolen.

My wife took him to the vets and as I suspected he's got a nasty tooth infection. Its obviously been bothering him over the last few days but where its become so swolen its got to come out. £200 bucks later and he'll be home this afternoon.

Its funny how you worry about them like you would a child even with something quite mundane as a gammy tooth. But as Swiss says, I know I mention the cost but even if it was £2000 I'd pay it and deal with it later.

How does he feel about exciting far more attention here than your jokes Swiss?

All a matter of priorities really I suppose!

My sister had two cats - one got run over and was badly hurt but pulled through. Then he got run over again and died - horrible. They have a nice house but on a busy road in Wells. No one stopped either time.

I also saw a dog get run over five cars ahead in NZ - I was the only one to stop. Kids ran out of a nearby house screaming thinking I had run it over - it was pretty badly hurt.

Hope yours is okay Mr T. Some properly grotty people around it seems.

Having a baby is far more important than reading about loopy cats, however I appreciate your sentiments. Hope you are coping well

Zoe obviously has a sharply defined sense of humour Swiss. Can't you let her post a joke or two for us all?

Just a little update for all of his fans

We have been worried since he came back from the vets because he would not eat or drink..anything !!
We had all kinds of stuff for him but everything we tried just did not work. We resorted to grabbing him when he was fast asleep and shoving a syringe down his throat in the vain attempt he would get something, even if it was medicine or water.
We know that he only had a few days of this behaviour before dehydration set in and then we would be in big trouble and it would mean another trip to the vet for more serious action.

We even went and bought a silly priced fountainy thingy that we hoped would encourage him to lap water but he just looked at it with some bemusement

Finally we were about to give up when I decided to cook chilli con carne last night. As usual he was around my feet and just out of curiosity, I tried him with the container that held the mince juices.
Well he went ****ing mental for it, out came his tongue and he was pushing his head into it. So I whacked in some raw mince and bless him, the little bugger ate and ate as though he had never seen food before.

We were over the moon and soon afterwards he started drinking as well

So finally we have got our Charlie back and he is making good progress.

Can we have some more pics of the little sod Swiss?

I did say to Zoe to poach some fish for him and to give him some of the fishy water.

That's brilliant news, should get his strength up in no time. And it proves that he actually can manage to eat solid food despite the broken jaw and missing teeth, which is even better

He'll get used to the water fountain - cats do generally like to drink from running water, as in the wild it's less likely to be stagnant.

Did the vet give you any suggestions as to what to feed him? Presumably anything crunchy is out, but if he's OK on raw mince then tinned food shouldn't present him with any problem. Maybe try the food that comes in small pouches (Sheba? Whiskas pockets?)

Yes Andy, that is what he has been eating all the time we have had him. The fussy bugger turns his nose up at the tinned stuff so we have to fork out for felix stuff

Anyway we dont care, if it makes him better and stronger then it will be quite soon that I can start scrapping with him. I miss my fights and chases around the house

So here is all cleaned up and looking much better

He looks lovely.

I had to take our cat back to the vets today. He hasn't recovered from his tooth extraction and they are keeping him in over the weekend

Shame mate...bet you will miss him over the weekend but I am sure he will be well looked after.

Went back for a visit this morning to the vets and he gave Charlie the all clear sign off as he was very happy with him. Certainly made a difference him eating. So two more weeks of anti inflammatory stuff and then fingers crossed he will be all sorted and back to normal..well minus a few teeth and some fur

Ever so glad to hear he is getting back to normal now, what a relief that must be.

Good photo that, he has a look in his eye which says" I wonder what I can do next to take the **** out of my mate Swiss!"

Apparently not. He has developed this infection in his mouth which he might recover from but the Luekemia will cause him to pick up infection very quickly (I guess its a bit like AIDS) so his immune system is almost gone. We can either have him dosed up and have him home for the weekend or I'll go up after work and see him off (so to speak)

I'll leave it there as don't want to mess up Swiss's's thread.
