Great results mate! Bob does it again!

Bob is very good at getting the torque figure nice and high. My 2.0 litre UK turbo was deltadashed at 343ft lbs from a VF35 with an FMIC before the Simtek was fitted. It's running slightly higher boost now and certainly feels a bit stronger, wouldn't surprise me if I was in the 350 lbs ft range now.... Unfortunately, can't get a delltadash figure for it as that's an Ecutek feature.

NS - what boost are you running as you are also on standard internals?

Bob mapped mine to 1.5bar, and as he did it I am sure that's fine. However, some people seem to think that's a bit high for standard internals?

Hiya mate. 1.5 peak IIRC. That's fine with the right mods and providing it's set up properly - and it will be with bob; They don't come much more experienced with Scoobies than him. If he says it's ok, you can take it to the bank. Acceptable peak boost on standard internals has crept up over the years as the cars have demonstrated their reliability at different levels.

What intercooler you running?

Standard MY00 intercooler but with STi alloy y-piece with Samco piping.

Bob agreed that the standard plastic piping was not only more restrictive but in his words 'paper thin'!

I am 100% confident in Bob - its just that after the mapping I was reading some posts where people were advising not going over 1.3-1.4bar.

Cheers though

You need to upgrade that intercooler next mate. It'll struggle at your level of tune: I know, I've been there. FMIC is the way to go, but you'll have to save some pennies.

FWIW: My car used to be mapped to 1.35 bar peak and that was a fairly common figure for UK cars on std internals between mappers it seemed, although each car has to be judged on how it responds during mapping. It just seems that it's gotten to a point now, where the mappers are confident that 1.5 can be achieved without compromise to long-term reliability.

I remember a time when people said that anything over 280bhp would cause meltdown!

Things move on I guess! Which is good for us!

Well I'm more than happy with the power at the mo. Although I always said that 273/273 was enough!

If my engine goes pop then I would think about STi or FMIC when the engine was being rebuilt.

However, for now I am just going to enjoy it

Never knew I could do 70 in 2nd and 100 in 3rd before mapping the VF35!!

The wallop between 3.5k and 6k now is

I was pleasantly surprised myself with the torque figure in comparison to the bhp, roll on the next stage.

Hey guys! you had to put up with rain for your mapping, the week before I had to put up with a speed scamera van on the bridge over the Cirencester dual carriageway during my power runs Bet he was pissed at seeing the same scooby going backwards and forwards and not getting a result

Had a good mapping session with Bob, and now I've paid for the ecutek licence I will be on the hunt for even more power. Addictive isn't it?

It certainly is, I am looking to upgrade the injectors and turbocharger (not sure which one yet) and then back to see Bob for some more of the same.

Just finished reading the thread, glad you guys got good results. I'm tempted to bite the bullet myself and get the car mapped. We''ll just have to see.

I cannot thank Bob enough for his skills and he even fitted my 3 port boost solenoid prior to the mapping session.

I got a few stares from other drivers on my trips up and down the A470 between the Mountain Ash roundabout and Merthyr as we were flying past them, slowing down and then overtaking them again.

The car is now much more responsive and flies until the torque drops off after 6000rpm due to the astmathic turbo that in the words of Bob is strangling the engine.

I will now be on the look out for a vf39 turbocharger and a set of STi injectors so that the car can reach its next stage of tuning/mapping, the bug has well and truly bitten me now.

It was also good to meet STiX who had his car mapped after mine, I just hope my tea and coffee were not too bad either.

thats quite an incredible step up in power, is that a box standard WRX, mapped to 390lbs ft of torque, or is it an STi ?
what other mods does the car have apart from the 3 port boost.

It was quite a car, with the 2.5 litre engine and the TD04 turbo it spooled like crazy and pulled like a train - the ideal daily driver.

It had a full 3" exhaust system with sports cat, Prodrive fuel pump, RCM air induction cone from memory anyway - that car left my ownership back in 2009 or 2010, anyway it was a while ago.

If he is out of the country - which he does a lot of then he might not answer his mobile but I have always emailed Bob and always got an answer with 24 hours.
