A mate of mine took a two year sabattical from work and he drives for the local hospital in his own vehicle (a normal four door car 408 Peugeot I think.)

He runs patients from one hospital to another, and to places other than hospitals for other treatments.

He also picks people up from home for cosmetic surgery at private clinics, then drops them back off.

The people he ferries around do not need him as a nurse, so he is not an ambulance driver nor a taxi driver, he is paid by the mile, it may be worth an enquiry at your local NHS department.

Also as you say, child care is expensive, so why not explore that avenue, if your looking after one then why not look after four....I know there is alot more to it than that, but its worth a look.
