That is the debate in itself, If you want ties with Europe severed then its UKIP for you, On a personal level I dont think it would be good for us so I will vote for another party.
UKIP talk a good fight but I am not sure it all add's up. What if the Euro get stronger? What if European VAT gets unified and we stay on out own levels? What if European savings get guaranteed and we cant afford to do the same?
To many questions for my tiny mind.

Sell you on UKIP eh?
UKIP want to have a trading relationship with the EU like Switzerland (and the rest of the world) does. They want to double the number of prison places over the next 10 years. They want to have a meritous visa entry system for all immigrants just like Oz and NZ. The want to raise the tax free allowance to £11500 to ensure that people on minimum wage dont pay tax. The want to introduce a school voucher system so you can choose which school you send your child to. They believe in small government and personal responsibility.
And they want to have the UK governed by its own citizens, UK laws made in the UK, the right of self - determination.

And the Tories have not committed to a referendum ... see latest at BBC NEWS | Politics | Cameron demands Lisbon referendum
"... He promised a referendum if he took office before all EU states ratified it, but declined to say what he would do if this happened before a Tory win ..."
Weasel words .......

The BNP leaflet is classy, 'Why we're all voting for the british national party'
Well the elderly couple arn't, they're italians
The construction workers arn't, they're Americans
The Guardsman does NOT vote BNP, but when he phoned them to complain he was told to FxxK OFF
Oh and the spitfire isn't british either, its polish
Plus the obvious objections
really people, BNP, really?

UKIP have picked up votes in the wake of the expenses scandal. The irony here is their leader is an MEP, the MEP's expenses make our MP's expenses look like loose change....

I think you're missing the point Stuart. That's exactly the sort of thing he's fighting against.

But that's not why I am voting for them.
I say carry on trading with Europe and milk it for what it's worth. But stay friends with USA who'll always have a nuke or two if we need some help (you never know the Welsh may get restless )
PS. And saving £40m per day by getting out does help

Seems to me he's no better than the rest of them....

We need European trade (it accounts for over 50% of our trade) but not the crazy burden of bureaucracy that currently comes with it. Sadly the old EEC became the EU, we took our eye off the ball and the EU got its grubby fingers into all manner of pies.
It's well documented and demonstrated how excessive legislation, bureaucracy and red tape curtails trade and the generation of wealth.
The legislative power of the EU needs to be curtailed whilst allowing trade to flourish. In order for this to happen we need to be right in the middle, setting the direction and not on the peripheries.

Are you saying that we should continue as we are? We can and will remain at the heart of European trading without being swept up in everything else.
#44
What I guess I'm saying is that I feel we need to be in more than we need to be out and that if we are in then we should be looking to drive through our agenda rather than just accepting the direction set by other members.

100% in agreement with you. I don't care what views they claim to have as they are all self centred greedy career politicians who will say anything to get your vote and pelase themsleves once elected.

My own opinion of the Eu Commission is best not repeated but whatever happens, they are bad for this country, are grossly corrupt, and have taken command of our law making etc. and have ensured that we are being stiffed up for their advantage. We have to pay them £12billion for membership and we don't get it back since Billy Liar relinquished the rebate which was negotiated by Maggie T.
I feel that if there is a strong UKIP vote this time then whoever runs this country will get the message that we are still very pissed off at not getting the referendum which was promised to us by this bunch of liars over whether we want to ratify the Eu Constitution. ie. handing our country to them on a plate. Would not do any harm to have a large number of anti Eu federation MEP's either.

But we can't drive through our agenda any more than Cornwall can drive their agenda through in the UK.

UKIP MEPs receive a lot of cash thats true - the point is ITS THE SAME AMOUNT OF CASH AS IS GIVING TO ALL MEPs! Thats how much they get. They dont get expenses, they get allowances (eg travel to EU paliament) which are a flat rate and applicable to all MEPs. UKIP just happened to comment on the amount of money involved and people have been trying to link the amount of money to the expenses scandal, whereas in fact its just what all MEPs receive (and they're getting a 45% rise next year!)

It's a sad day when the National Front and a bunch of slightly mad and corrupt Euro biggots are ahead of the more established mainstream party's.
Not sure what to make of all this...let see what happens.
BTW i not voting, I just cannot bring myself to endorse any of them

I think the Tories are much more anti-Europe than they let on. Cameron should pick up on the public sentiment and take a milder version of the UKIP line. Of course he would have to put Ken Clarke out to grass but that should be manageable. IMHO Cameron should go and Hague should be at No 10 and persuade Vince Cable to be Chancellor.
At least this would give the public something to latch onto as Brown is rapidly imploding. The Liberals do not help their cause by banging on about Europe.

They are peasants who do not have any confidence in the ability of a strong British government to persuade the non Franco-German Axis countries that British is best!
Err, they may have a point!
But that doesn't mean they desrve your vote.
Vote Green or lib dem instead.
Just don't vote for the fascist thug party!

UKIP are a bunch of small minded little englanders (led by some bloke with French Ancestry) who do not feel that Great Britain can play a major part in a united Europe.
