to be honest, i have been driving for many many years, and i didn't know about the limit on vans speed...i new about 7.5tns and over.

Scoobyman, what van do you drive?? If it's a 'car dirived' van then it's not limited to 60mph on A-roads, or 50mph on B-roads.
This should be obvious to PC plod, but one of the guys I work with got done for doing 70mph in one of our vans (we all have the same kind) and it went to court, until BT wrote a letter saying the Vauxhall Corsa Combo is based on a Corsa and has the same speed limits as a Corsa (normal car). PC plod got it wrong and he would have been in the same situation as you until BT done something useful (first in years!)
There are loads of car dirived vans, unless it's a Transit Connect, then most vans of that size are genarally car dirived and the speed limts are as such.
If it's bigger such as a Transit/Vito/Movaro etc.... then your up **** creak, but just a thought
