Puff - only got my SPDs yesterday - have been getting used to them using Mrs Matt's M540s (almost the same). I used to have them years ago but never got on with them, but they seem to have improved a lot.
Forgot to loosen one properly, cycled up behind a bloke and his little girl (carefully and as politely as I could). She suddenly moved as I went to pass (yes it's a cyclepath), I forgot I was clipped in and toppled over - doh!! Scraped leg, arm and scratched new XT pedal... Must be more alert!!

I think with SPD's everyone falls off at least once, once you get the mental process in place to unclip when it looks like you will need to stop you are there, personally, now I wouldnt want to go back to normal pedals.
The Felt Road bike is lovely, the performance is better as it is so much lighter than my Hybrid and I thought that was quite light, it only weighs 18.2 lbs, very taught but smooth ride comapred to the Hybrids rock hard approach, I think the carbon forks and rear stays hel in this respect, much less nervous feeling than the Dave Hinde Road Bike I road a few months back, much more comfortable as well, only problem was a rather impressive headwind slowing me down and it doesnt have a speedo yet, I was also missign my rear view mirror, the worlds gimpiest bicycle accesory but I prefer to be able to see whats creeping up on me.

I'm on Specialised Tahos with Shimano M545s. Bike is a tourer, Dawes Galaxy.
With the MTB SPDs, I think unless you have really unusual legs, they move around enough to suit. I've been wondering about adjusting mine so my normal pedal action is more central in the range of movement of the cleat. That would mean I couldn't really unclip towards the frame though.

Vindaloo - I have Tahos too (as does Mrs Matt)! Mine are on XTs though. Knee is now rather sore!
Mono - best of luck. I considered that but too long to be away from wife and baby for now. Did my first MTB race as part of an off road triathlon a month ago and loved it!
