Havent even looked at the HP figures - just looked at the speed it was going round the track and I wasnt impressed

I though that they quote (road)wheel horse power rather than flywheel - which makes it the other way round, i.e. 500bhp USA is more than 500BHP UK.

Regardless of how the numbers are created, setting a track record is an achievement that doesn’t take into account the power level or the other competitors at the event. That said, we have raced four times this year and two of those netted track records…

Maybe not
I used to live in the USA (Midwest) and always found the lack of decent tracks very frustrating...... rather non-existent
USA seems more interested in

1. Oval Nascar style tracks
2. Near vertical cliff face type 1000bhp events (i.e. get to the top of the near vertical's like in Icelandic type events)

Your right, but harder to benchmark but then thats not your problem :-)
