COB, I really am glad things have brightened up for you. I don't post on the site anything like as much as I used to so I haven't followed your fortunes since our little spat. What I have noticed on my visits is your constant references to some mysterious "clique" which you seemed to claim was at the root of all the negativity towards yourself and the site. Snazy got the same treatment from the membership, if you recall, but he never invoked any conspiracy theories.
The honest truth is, most people will put up with an attention seeking whinger for a little while but eventually they want to shake them or tell them to bugger off.
People reacting en masse towards something that bugs them, once someone first articulates that annoyance, is just human nature. It doesn't follow that there is some kind of organised hate campaign going on.

Stu, it's a bit like bars and pubs - they're in vogue and then they're not. Crammed, then empty. Subaru have been your worst enemy in many respects, first with the blobeye and now with the new version. The bubble has burst. Many classics are now either in fields or being cut up. There will always be a need for a Subaru site, and this one does the job, but it will never regain past glories. My own personal gripe is that some of the posters who i'd have loved to still be around have gone, whilst some of those who bored me senseless are still active, very active in some cases. Simon made some monumental errors of judgment along the way, not just with Muppets, but things like post ratings, infractions and God knows what else. It doesn't seem to me as if it's being run badly at all now, the damage has been done by others before you, and by the marque the site represents itself.
A couple of contradictions in this post.
You have a holier-than-thou closing sentence, then ask have you made things worst.
Secondly, was it too late to salvage the place. I bet that has rung some alarm bells for your advertisers.
Or are you that insecure with your managerial decisions you need the forum to massage your ego...
Just a couple of thoughts.....

This site was a mecca to all car owners, whether sub or otherwise. It was a place for debate, argument or 'other'.
That seems to have gone?
You must have seen traffic depleted since you took over?
I'm not blaming you, but this forum used to be mad busy 2002 - 2005, and now it's not.

You moan like hell about the site being crap yet you still come back day after day.
It's whinging ***** like you that's causing this site's demise IMHO.
All you do is whinge and stir. You don't bring anything whatsoever to this site of positive nature just pure rhetoric half the time.

Pontificating
I can't be arsed to get into whole bitching and slagfest
Telboy you make a very valid point with regards to the Subaru situation, when I bought my first classic in 98 it was a rare and unusual car you didn't see many on the road and you'd often get stopped in car parks and petrol stations by genuinely interested parties, not the case anymore, I still love the brand and the car, even the new one .
When I joined in 2001 there were 8000 members on here and a lot of interesting helpful people, PSL was unique (to many clones nowadays) the forum has gone the way of the Subaru image in my humble opinion, that image has been tarnished as the old classics became more affordable and gained a chav burberry style tag, no longer the domain of the enthusiast, it atracts all sorts, you just got to live with it or move on.
That said there are still some remarkably funny and interesting people in here, and as a big Sports fan the Sport section has some great fun and banter, hence I stay.
As for Stu's flak, personally I found his posting style/attitude plain rude and arogant at times he posts like any other member, when you're the "boss" you need to step back and take a broader view rather than attacking people (not every post just some) this I believe is probably why there is so much bad feeling towards the guy and some of the Mods need moderating themselves, the moderation under the old Simon (Pre infraction era) was far more sensible imo.

Nope.
You're still a bell end, *****, warrior, angry idiot and the reason people get bored with SN.
You lash out at anyone that says the site has gone downhill (which it has).
You're a big keyboard hero.
People like you have stifled this site and caused its very obvious demise.
Well done, hero

Wading in through all the treacle, wearing my ickle size 5's...
I first joined as an SN member as my OH had a Impreza, and whilst there were a select few (i NDN) who perhaps did not make my entrance too welcoming, I was thick skinned, or perhaps just thick enough to carry on coming in, and found (in the main!!) a great bunch of people who discussed everything from Scoobs to window licking.
I agree with the comments re the social standing of the Subrau has nosedived; one of the reasons my OH sold his was that far too many boy racers and chavs were owning them, and tarting them up to ridiculous levels. To us, it somewhat tarnished the image of the Impreza, and Subaru as a whole.
I have had bellylaughs galore, and some very good advice from this site through sections like Muppets & NSR, but unfortunately the changes that were introduced made this place die on its ****. People who I would call the life blood of this forum have either been removed or have left through their own accord, taking with it the life and soul of SN. Yes things evolve, and people move on, but not to the detriment of the site, as has occured here.
I do continue to log in- who knows when there may be a thread which interests me, or one perhaps I can return the advice on (rare, I know), but there is very little which stirs my interest. The things I am being told by people who perhaps come in here more frequently than I, make it sound like SN is being driven into the ground further by petty moderations (by SOME not ALL of the current mods) and a bullish stance from the 'manager'.. correct me if I have been wrongly informed
To all the great 'online' mates I have made through SN.. even though this place might have changed, you guys have been, and continue to be (mostly elsewhere!!) fab
Oh and I must admit to having a belly laugh on this thread tonight - thanks SwishPony

That said, there is still no reason why the excellent cross section of members on scoobynet cannot continue to indulge in intelligent topics of conversation. The main reason such discussion dwindles on a forum is the simple fact that a lot of the topics you would want to discuss have in fact been done to death already.

Stu,
Thankyou for picking out my post from the veritable myriad and for not commenting, which in itself is a good thing.
Being a person who runs a successful building company ( the hardest sector in our climate) I believe success comes from the top. That is where my holier-than-thou comment came from.
The points YOU raised from an advertisers point of view, would suggest there is panic within the higher management at SN.
If you required feedback from the members, I am sure this could of been done slightly more professionally. I.E from someone lower down the chain of command.
I hope you have the feedback you require and good luck with whatever you and the company decides.
My point of view on the site:
Early teething problems / seems sorted.
Well moderated most of the time.
Lots of new posts and posters.
All positives.
As for some members, well that's why you have moderators........
Good Luck.....

I see ive been ignored again by the Lobster
No surprise there really though LOL
Stats are down and traffic is down by a large amount, lets face it, you and IB might cant turn this forum around to how it was
You have made some poor choices IMHO, no wonder things are the way they are

Telboy,
You have quoted me, quoting Stu, In fact you can't even call it a quote.
Would you mind telling me what is that shockingly bad to make my quoted post not only irrelevant but utterly irrelevant....
You have taken a small piece of my post as a quote and bombastically trashed the rest. Not that I am that fussed, I was under the impression I posted with a relevant point on confidence to third party revenues for the site.
Possibly this is too high brow for your good self or on previous post an endemic problem of the site has been Trolls. Which is it Telboy, Troll or D*ckhead. You choose.....
If your require help on the choice, ask the forum.....

Not trolling, just fed up with thick people spouting ill-informed "opinions". If you don't know the difference between worse and worst, something my nine year old daughter could explain, then why sohuld i pay any attention to anything else you're trying to say? As Stu has subsequently said, your post has been ignored. I don't think we need to ask the forum for any further views about it or anything else.

TelBoy,
As previously, you have left a piece of the post out. Stu stated he respectfully
ignored my post, but took the time to reply.....
As for your reply;
I think from a process of elimination, you have answered your own question.
I asked are you a Troll or a D*ckhead.
Your answer;
"Not Trolling" which only leaves a D*ckhead.
I'm sure you don't need a nine year old child to work that one out......or maybe you do.....

Are YOU amused by what you're trying to do in your convoluted way? I do hope so, because you're on your own here. But don't let that stop you, i've got all day.

TelBoy,
I am euphoric at having your approbation to proceed being convoluted.
Alas I will strive to increase my tenability at all times when confabulating with your esteemed self.........

As someone who didnt frequent the place much before my appointment its hard for me to comment on the way it was Vs now is. I came along and found a forum full of faults, long standing complaints and a somewhat controversial infraction system. I did what I thought was best for teh community as a whole and stand by all my changes as I believe they were the right changes to make.
I would be interested to know the answers to a few questions if you could take the time to answer them;
What would you members complaining like me to do to improve the place?
Have I introduced things that have made it worse?
Did I come along too late to salvage the place?

You have retained perfectly reasonable rules which are necessary to keep the whole thing on an even keel. No point in allowing the forum to deteriorate into an uncontrollable melee of insulting rubbish, but by the same token, nothing wrong in a bit of **** taking when the occasion demands. A sense of humour is pretty vital I believe. I for one have no complaints at your changes, and it is good to feel that we can make fair comment now without having to worry in case it does not fit in with the Webby's ideals.
There is nothing you personally can do to influence who joins SN apart from providing a suitable medium for us all to express our thoughts etc. This is what I believe you have done perfectly well enough.
Those who are complaining about the loss of some of the original members and their style of posting etc. either consider themselves incapable of posting in such a style, or conversely, that they are so much better at it then the rest of us.
This place is after all made by the members, we are all different in our approach, and we are just as responsible for the success of the site as are the management. Continuously moaning about SN is this respect will achieve nothing good but in fact is more likely to do the opposite.
Les
