My White Shadow had the earlier interconnecting shaft between the gearchange mechanism and the selectors and the slot in one shaft split where the slot registered. They produced a modified shaft with the sleeve to stop the slot opening up. I had to change gear with the indicator until I was able to repair it. That workshop manual must be worth a bit!

The RAF sent me off to Canada for 15 months worth of training so the bike had to be sold-nowhere to keep it. Naturally I have regretted it ever since. It only cost £100 from Comerfords! My mum had to sign the HP for me

I would not have fancied a Black Knight. It was an original plastic rocket after all. I don't think it was all that popular anyway. I did have a Rapide later which I got in 1964 and I got a Comet as well because I had heard that the demon tweak was to put a Comet cylinder head in place of the Rapide rear head. I never got around to it and the Rapide was a nice bike, but not in the same class as the Shadow. It even had a Steib sidecar which I took off! I sold them all to buy a Lotus Cortina.

UB, it just looked in your post that you thought I would not know what bikes they were, I must have misunderstood, but you obviously are pretty experienced with 'bikes.
